Correct as to the book, and the champion!

The game and the set?

The set is right out of the box from NOJ in Slovenia. It's one of only two yet in existence, but NOJ is taking orders for more. https://www.noj.si/?mod=catalog&action=productDetails&ID=182&lang=en

It's a gorgeous set, a faithful reproduction, magnificently hand-crafted and long in the making, a story I will tell in an upcoming review...

Very, very nice set but way out of my budget league. Congrats!

Can you give your opinion about this 1? Thx

A good playing set but not much of a reproduction. Here's my review:

Many thanks. 2.375". The large bases on these pieces would crowd smaller squares.

One of the most extraordinary modern chess sets in the World!

But I'm crying ! No german Knight? That strange and aesthetic Knight of this Soviet Set? I joke!

The price is too heavy, but this set is a work of art and an anthem to the reproduction of chess pieces!
I will have to save on my Portuguese Teacher salary and have the courage of Mikhail Tal in the sacrifice on my family castling. Yes Christmas is coming, but I no longer believe in Santa Claus! Do you now, the price of this set is almost the salary of the Kindergarten teacher of my wife!

Yes...Portugal XXI century.

Chuck, your extensive research and collaboration with Gregor has resulted in a truly magnificient reproduction of the 1961 Soviet Championship set used by Tal.  I can't thank you enough for your efforts  in bringing this historic reproduction set to fruition.  I drool every time I look at this set. The pieces are unbelievably gorgeous with their awesome wide bases.  I can't wait until I get mine.  Kudos to you and Gregor for this undertaking. And I can't wait for your review on this gem.

What a set! happy.png  Congratulations on an fine acquisition.

Are your white pieces white lacquered?

Is that board an inch thick?

So many questions...

Thanks, Mark. I think the frame is an inch thick. The playing area is recessed in the Jaques style. The pieces are maple, and not white, stained and finished, not lacquered.

Thanks, Up. It took a lot of work, but it was a lot of fun and the end product speaks for itself.
