New clock: DGT 1001

Haven't seen any mention of this one in the forums yet: DGT1001

Coming September 2015. Very simple clock. Counts down or up, no delay or increment.

The form or shape of this clock looks like a Chronos.  Of course that is where the similarities stop.

I Googled the clock and found a YouTube video in German.  The clock is not a big thing at all.  It looks about the same width as the other DGT clocks and much thinner.

I don't understand why DGT makes this clock and the DGT Easy with no Delay or Increment.  That really kills the use of these clocks for tournament play.  I don't know the price of this new one yet, but the Easy is not a lot less expensive than the NA or the Easy Plus with Delay and Increment.

According to the DGT site the price will be €22.49. A bit too expensive for such a simplistic clock, I think (considering how much more useful the Easy+ and friends are). I agree with you on the DGT Easy. I would prefer some more colourful versions of the Easy+ instead.

Exactly why would a person want to buy this when most tournaments use a delay.  Other than that is looks good and they should have at minimim added a delay.

All very good questions, and probably the reason nobody is talking about it.

What does FIDE do about analog clocks that don't have increments?  I know the USCF simply adds a certain amount of time for each type of increment.

I understand enjoying the analog clocks for aesthetic effect, but I don't understand why some of the analog clocks they still make are so ugly.

"A Dear Family Member" is not ugly. Golden memories, David.     Smile

Just bought DGT 1001 white here http://chessgamesshop.com/index.php?c=20&p=934 and I am really satisfied. Plus this was the best price + delivery cost I could find.

This model will please the "purists" - players that prefer traditional time controls.

Adding some time in start, let's say playing 10 min instead 7min + 3sec, looks quite okay to many players.

And, if marketing gurus were not pushing hard the increment and delay, creating virtual need for it and appropriate timeware, we'd probably still be using more - still quite useful - plain old (style) analog timers.
