New in Chess Yearbook Digital

Hello, All!

I'm a bit surprised that I'm not finding either a digital option for the yearbook or bundles of the physical books at a significantly reduced rate.  Am I missing something?  Suggestions?

There was recently a 75% discount for books, but yes, no bundles and no digital yearbook.

I see.  Okay.  I'm assuming "was" means it's over.  I guess I'll just hang tight for the next sale, and pick up volumes as I go.  I noticed that there are some that sporadically pop up for minimal prices on Amazon, so I'll keep my eye out there.  More or less, I was trying to avoid dropping $8K or something like that on them, which would drive my wife nuts. Laughing

We've gone minimalist in my home, so we're trying to do as much paperless as possible --love hardcopies of books, though.

@Milliern, David, you can suggest them to make electronic copies.  They are quite responsive out there at the sales@newinchess.com Email.

Guardianx9, I think you made get be mixing up the magazine and the yearbook. I know the magazine is digital.

If you go to the New In Chess Website, and go to the yearbook page.  You can:

1) Buy Individual Issues

2) Subscribe

3) Buy past years bundles of 4 books for a discounted price.

I think the third one is what the OP is referring to.  For example, you can get the 4 books from 2014 for about $68.  2013 for about $44.  2011 for under $30!  Etc.

Does anyone on here subscribe to the magazine?  If yes, are you satisfied with the value?  I noticed everyone who has commented on this thread is considerably higher rated than me.  Would it have much value for someone at my rating?  Thanks.

I subscribe. What is your USCF/FIDE rating? If you don't have one, the best I could say is that it is a quality publication with good game analysis and news.

The magazine is great.  Analysis from players themselves, historical articles and tournament reviews.

It's crazy they don't have something equivalent to Mega Database or Paramount Database.  I bet a database of all their past yearbooks would be a good seller.

Why do you want that, when they give the PGNs away for free? Google search it. You'll be pleased you did.

They're just unannotated pgns.  The annotations are what make the database worth it.

Oh, I see.  You want the annotations.  Yeah, that's unrealistic.  They would lose so much money if they didn't charge $1K-$2K for that database.

@Milliern, David, they've got a digital version of Yearbook now.  You can also use back issues in the app.

Thanks, Timothy.

Now that my hard copy subscription has run out, I'm trying to get the apps to work on my iPad.  Guess how much success I'm having with that.  The failure rate of technology is rather absurd.  After my iPad's "New in Chess Magazine" and "New in Chess Yearbook" apps tell me "authentification failure," I look at my account online via my pc, and under "My Account" I find that there isn't a location that indicates "username," so I assume "username" is really my email address.  Why does this stuff never seem to work?  Maybe going digital is a big mistake.

The app does not yet work on all devices  But I'm sure they are working on it.  They are a good bunch at New in Chess.

Ah, thanks.  This helps.  I was getting pretty agitated about the apps not working on my iPad, which is maybe 4 years old.  Maybe I'll order the next yearbook in hard copy and see what happens with the app.
