New to Fritz 13 - Need help with files

I just got Fritz 13 because I was told it was the 'best' to analyze chess games.

I want to take the PGN from games I play live on chess.com and put them onto Fritz so that it can analyze it for me.

I'm about to tear my hair out. The instructions are worthless and although I can create a database I haven't the slightest idea how to add the chess.com games to it.

Help.

select append games then locate your pgn, this method only allows adding one pgn at a time, it's still a mystery to me as how to add multiple pgns into a database. i hope this helps

Thank you for showing me that. Now my problem is how to take a game i just played on chess.com and move it to a file that Fritz will recognize. The only way I see is the 'get PGN' button which creates a PGN file in my download section of My Documents. However, it doesn't have the proper extension that Fritz recognizes (chh, cbv or cbz).

change the recognizable format to pgn then.

Another way I quickly load a chess.com game in Fritz 13 is to use the "get PGN" but instead of saving the file, I open with notepad, then right click and copy all the info and simply use the "Paste Game" option under the "Home" ribbon in Fritz 13.

With regard to saving the pgn into chessbase format, it can be done in Fritz (although I find it easier in Chessbase).  Simply go to File - New - NEW Database (creates in cbh format which is the default) call it Chess.com or whatever, then open your game pgn, go to File - Save Game As - and select the New database you just created, it will be saved and converted into cbh format.

I agree the instructions for fritz & chessbase are really poor especially if you new to the products, but there are some great videos and articles if you google or youtube a guy called Steve Lopez, and he also has a thread on here if you search his name

Hi I reckon to add multiple pgns to another database, just open your pgn database the right click - edit -select all (or select whatever games you want) - copy.  Now open the new database you want to move these games to and right click - edit -paste, the games are added.  Fritz automatically converts the pgns into whatever format the new database is (default cbh)

I wrote about how to do it here:

Steve - Thank you for your post. I'm familiar with your writings from Chessbase.

Chessbase has some wonderful material, they really do. However, technically it's a nightmare to figure out how to use the software. Why aren't there better instructions? If you look at the old Convekta and the new Peshka software (I know they're competition) it's like night and day. It's clear, intuitive and easy to use. Chessbase's biggest flaw is their lack of instructions. It takes me forever to figure out how to work any of it. It shouldn't be necessary for you to write articles on their use - the instructions should be part of the package.

You mean like a help file included that you can read to find out how the software works?  That kind of thing?

Maybe they could even include one that you could launch at any time via some kind of handy shortcut key, I dunno, lets says F1?

That would be well handy!

You're welcome.

(BTW, I'm very familiar with Convekta's software. I'm presently working with Aquarium and CA in preparation for offering support for them through uscfsales.com, and I'm having the "converse" problem -- and Convekta doesn't even offer much in the way of articles the way ChessBase has. The moral here? Neither is "more intuitive" than the other -- it's simply a matter of what you're used to, and it's tough to get used to a different way of doing things.)

the key to using chess programs is to know the file formats (.pgn [standard chess file format], .cbv [chessbase format].  shortcuts, program options, help files --- how to use them is not especially intuitive.

fritz is good for game analysis --- use the infinite analysis feature to play through different lines of a completed game.

i have fritz 13 (for occasional deep computer analyses) and cb2009premium (for game analysis and db management [db = database].

Hope you will find simple instructions here
