No extra queen...no problem!

One year ago I rescued an indajesa nº4 tipical set from being buried in its box for the rest of its...my life. This set came without extra queens and, to me, it didn't be any problem as I think I never promoted a pawn in any life game in my life but...If there is any day I can reach the 8 row with a pawn...mmm...(most likely my queen has already been captured ... ), but, maybe I'm lucky some day so...Let's do one!

This is the twenty years confined set:

To match the color will be a headache...

Impossible to match, I will have to improvise some method...

And try to turn a piece as close as possible of the indajesa model

but ... will I get it? find out the end of the story here:

@jacmater

Nice work. I watched all 3 videos andI really enjoyed  seeing the process. Thanks for sharing.

@jacmater  As a subscriber to your YouTube channel, your video popped up on my YouTube homepage yesterday before you announced new videos were available. I was "Viewer" #1. Hah! Great work as always. Thank you for taking the time to film all this and sharing.

Hats off to you mister! I've seen clips where they turned pieces using templates making it look so easy, but you're doing it with bare minimal tools!

Because that's a real artisan!

That's so cool! No queen no problem. Haha! If it was me it would be a problem.

HA! +1 @MCH818 ...a huge problem for me too. Alas, not an artisan like @jacmater. Thanks for the thread - very interesting and I am envious of such skills. Well done.

Thank you so much everyone, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Last night I was half asleep and I just realized I wrote “it didn’t be any...” !! please replace it with a "it was not a.." ... face palm.

@MCH818 no problem if you own a lathe and a lot of patience of course!  "Haha! If it was me it would be a problem." That's good news because it must mean that you promote pawns often! wink.png

@jone4s the goal of the videos is just to share the proces so I'm glad you enjoyed them!

@Pawnerai I didn't know if it was you but I suspected it , haha! thanks man!!.

@TheOneCalledMichel I was tempted to shape bigger chisels but all the romanticism would be lost that way! But my chisels and gouges are a bit shaped, like rounded or flatted, adapted to my needs.

@GrandPAtzerDave Thank you very much man, nice to read kind words.

@Powderdigit I don't know if you are a collector but if so, I can say that the proces is really pleasant so I recomend it to you if you can get a lathe.!

I'd like to apologise about the quality of the videos, now I know how to focus to one specific point with the  phone camera so the next video will be better than these ones. Also, yesterday i broke a bishop from the dubrovnik set so I have to make a new one.

Definitely! I would be making the Crumiller 1849 set and the Dubrovnik 1950 and Fischer Dubrovnik.

Yes definitely Dubrovnik 1950 and I would also make Crumiller 1849 and Fischer Dubrovnik and sell those to mister Mc, shameless!

@jacmater - ! - 😊 I can imagine the response of my very patient and wonderful wife when I said: “Hey, I’m just going to buy a lathe!” Her patience may run out given I have trouble holding a hammer! But who needs a hammer when you have a lathe?!
@MCH818 - you have me intrigued - what is this Crummillier you covet? I couldn’t easily find reference to it in the Google-verse. It was only a quick look though. 😏

Hello! That’s a nice idea! I have the same problem and I thought to do something similar. Now I saw your thinking process and I’ll try it for sure. Thank u!

Sir @jacmater, simply speechless right now. (Good thing I’m typing eh?) I am a novice turner myself and your videos have captivated my attention. You are a true craftsman and your willingness to record and share your efforts is inspiring. I learned much from viewing your technique. Of course, as is the nature of real craftsman, you make it look easy. I’m only about one year into my journey of turning, so this has been a real pleasure. Thank you so very much for sharing this Master class.

Thank you very much @Wits-end !! I think one of the goals of the forum is to share works, pieces, thoughts and chess related thkmgs with the others and this is what I like most to do as well as to see works from the others. I have to say that my technique is not the best to turn, the good technique is to cut the wood with the chisels not to scrap the wood as i do but is more difficult.

Now you have all the forum fanatics waiting to see some of your first pieces here! Go for it!

Perhaps one day @jacmater. Currently in the midst of relocating, so the shop is packed up. For now, I’ll enjoy the offerings of the masters such as yourself! Watching your videos sure gets my creative thoughts “turning” though. 😉
