Just a fantastic set. Enjoy it Mike.
Thanks MIke, your wonderful review helped me decide to buy this beauty.

Thanks for the review. I especially like the wide, flat bases on the bishops.
Your welcome Chuck, yeah, those bishops are really special

this is my favourite reproduction, very beautiful
Indeed, its a beautiful set! Thanks

That's one heckuva nice set, Mike. Does it have kingside stamping?
Thanks Chuck, no but that would really make this set pop! Good idea!

Are you serious?
Today I received another fabulous set from The Official Staunton Chess Company, their Steinitz Antiqued Chessman. A beautiful set indeed. Kudos to Carl Meceli. Kings measure 3 7/8" in height with a diameter base of just over 1 5/8". The finely turned pieces and exquisite hand carved Knights are a pleasure to handle. The antiqued finish is gorgeous and evenly applied to the pieces. The ebonised pieces look great and could pass for ebony. The well proportioned pieces have a vintage Jaques look and my guess were patterned after a circa 1850s-60s Jaques set. I am extemely happy with this set and would recommend it for tournament play as well as a nice addition to any chess set collection.
