I purchased this on eBay bc the nicer wood sets are super pricey and I felt like i could play with this and not feel too bad if something happened...i think it sits really well on a green silicone board.phphhf9eQ.jpeg

Are they weighted?

slightly....definite not compared to a  standard triple weight. King weighs 1.6 oz, 46 gas

How much did you pay in total? I'm looking for a durable set for offline play and tournament soon. I like the odd tops, better than crown top which might break. Would this be considered suitable for tournament play too?

@CMISforCHECKMATE - I am unsure if it is suitable for tournament play bc my understanding is that it varies by tournament.  I paid about $30 because of the shipping. Only reason I did so was because I like the design and wanted something I could beat up.  The dimensions are....

Dimensions (height|width at the bottom):
King: 9,1 cm / 3,6 cm
Queen: 7,7 cm | 3,5 cm
Rook: 5,1 cm | 3,3 cm
Bishop: 7,1 cm | 3,1 cm
Knight: 6,6 cm | 3,3 cm
Pawn: 4,7 cm | 2,9 cm

i would too. i went with the 4x weighted set from chessgeeks instead which i think is great. i like the look of that dubrovnik set though

I don't see why these would not qualify for tournament play. Staunton Design and the King is over 3.5 inches tall.

^^^ that is a great idea.  I will wait a little longer but once they need re-felting adding the plumbers putty will definitely happen.  thanks for the tip

I'm also a huge fan of  plastic dubrovnik chess sets. The one I prefer is the Dubrovnik Zagreb plastic set ( http://chessgamesshop.com/index.php?c=13&p=933 ). The king is 8,2 cm high en has a base of 3,7 cm. the set is not weighted but incredible stable due to the broad bases. In the pictures below the set is displayed on a vinyl chess board with 5,7 cm squares.

I am very much in love with that set and would reccomend it to anyone.

Hi everyone, after seeing all these sets here, I ordered the Dubrovnik Zagreb set pictured above. I wonder how playable it is and  I am afraid that the glossy finish might be a little bit distracting, but overall I find the pieces very attractive (and I cannot yet afford more expensive wooden Dubrovniks, especially NOJ, which seems awesome). I will of course find it out when the pieces arrive. As I am more used to wooden chess pieces this is new to me.

honestly, you will love it.  I pretty much play 90% of my games with this set now.  its pleasant to the eye and although unweighted its really stable

I bought one of these some time ago. The pieces aren't weighted; they are hollow. I took the paper felt off the bottom, filled them with plumber's putty, which doesn't shrink, and then put self adhesive felt from A.C. Moore on the bottoms and cut it to fit. It instantly became a triple, maybe quadruple weighted set for an additional cost of about five dollars. I donated it to my chess club last year, and it's getting heavy use every week. No problems yet.

You are brilliant!

I have both sets. The 1950's version I don't bring out on hot Oklahoma summer days due to the wax filled inside. The other Cream & Brown set I use here and there. The Kings and Queens of that set are a bit too similar. So I contrasted the color of the Queen;s groves in her crown to aid in distinction. I suggest getting this board for either set.

That's the set I have. I would like to find the version with the crosses on the Kings. Like in this video with GM Kostic ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx6w1mKlywM

@PolarChess it is vinyl but has a leather like feel to the board. The squares are green and yellowish color. They also sold a brown and tan color but they seem to be out of the 55mm board.

I purchased what looks like the same set for $22 US dollars shipped and thought it was a good value for the money. I also like the fact that the finials are easily removeable., I swapped them to get consistent colors since the normal Dubrovnik contrasting colored finials distract me when playing.

Here are some pictures of my Zagreb Dubrovnik plastic set with the green and yellowish board.
