Anybody have this software: Pocket Chess Opening instructor by Convecta. If so what do you think of it.

Bad!

Bought it a long while ago for the pocketPC ( a dying mobile OS btw) and it is nothing but an interactive PGN game viewer with notes on a selection of opening lines that the authors recommend.

Are there any quizzes or test positions to test your recall like CPT/Bookup or even chess mentor?  Does the author actually get into opening ideas ... talk about the pawn structures you would encounter here and what the plans are in detail? Not that I recall. Just main line and variations galore.

I don't see how putting one's opening notes into a software application makes this any different from picking up a NCO/MCO book or even a regular opening theory book. (atleast those would attempt to be thorough!)

Assumed that it would be worth it given my enjoyable first convekta purchase (C.T.ART) but they really did a bad job with this one.

They do have a couple of excellent programs. One being pocket chess endings and another middlegame endings. Both by convecta. The pocket chess endings is an easy way to learn the correct b vs kn ect play. In these two programs puzzles and tests are given for over 300 positions.

ONly about 10 bucks when I purchsed them. Thought the other might be the same.

Does the opening software have 15-20 move openings on all the major openings. For example the dragon it would show 15 moves and then variat all the major lines?

I'd have to check (don't have my pocketPC phone on hand now) but I recall being a little annoyed that the lines were cherry-picked by some GM and not comprehensive ... this was in no way a reference to find even major lines you may have been interested in.
