Taiwan, beautifully built. Dual doors move simultaneously in tandem, so they do not open during travel. 10" board,

Travelling Chess Set House Martin

I am not certain from which decade, the case is stitched leather hide. The board is enamel silkscreen on punched tin, fastened to a wood frame with four tacks and on the back of the frame suede [so the board will not glide unexpectedly during play]. I use it for fireside study for notational reference; it is not so nice for play pushing and pulling pins.

No I just thought it belonged here and cut/pasted. I own the one in the post before it.

Had a very similar set 50 years ago in HS. It was great when you were playing on a school bus.

Thx. I like it because of the green/white color and it is compact and magnetic.

Just bought it for 7 euros. Don't know much about it, but I have seen this set in the last episode of the Queen's Gambit series.

@iliaktidaamke That's really cool that you captured that scene and can see your travel set. It looks to be the same. Maybe the orange felt was a restoration? Or maybe the one in the movie lost the orange felt. May be fun to find out. Cool.

@Yenster1 Thank you! I believe the one in the movie has a different colour felt. The felt in my chess set feels also very old, so I believe it's a variation.

That’s a little beauty! Congrats and at €7 - even better.👌

Yeah, that makes perfect sense because Harmon was ultimately playing against a Russian in the plot of that TV series. I'm impressed that the producers would actually seek out an appropriate chess board for that time period, even for a short trivial scene.

@yenster1 If I remember correctly, a collector was consulted and supplied the sets. Maybe even someone who has posted on this forum. I can’t recall the details. Unfortunately the quality of posting in this forum has gone down and most of the serious collectors have left.

Yenster1

@beachero And to that collector, I bet it was an honor and a privilege to be part of something that.......drove up chess prices around the world!!! happy

And that's a pity for those of us who are still keen on seeking useful information on the chess sets that we buy. I'm not a collector and I never pay big money for another set. I don't seek approval for the sets I like when I post here, but genuine info instead which in result adds another layer of enjoyment to the game of chess.

Luckily there are still some left who continue to post, to share and impart knowledge (even when wrong sometimes). You know who you are ... and me, I am grateful for that.
