I'm starting to appreciate Jaques horsies more and more, in particular the round fat belly kind like one on the right. I've seen plenty horsies in real life and I've never seen one with six pack, maybe that's why the rounder the better for me happy.png

My Jaques Marshall Small Club Chess set arrived today.

That is seriously sweet. The Marshall is one of my favorite designs but, alas, I have only copies.

Finally, I can post my 3 inch set! Quite nice for the price, doesn’t have extra queens but I know where to get some, and I plan on getting this in 3.5 inch sometime in the future, whether that’s 4 weeks or 4 years.

They sell this chess set near where I live, it's over $350, I'm just drolling because I can't afford itThey sell this chess set  near where I live,  it's over $7,000 pesos ($350 U.S.) and I'm just droolling because I can't afford it.

I really enjoy looking at all the different sets and boards. Thanks for all the posts. I have a few sets only. Here's one combination that I am enjoying at present. The board was picked up second-hand recently, sanded back and oiled. The pieces are a GM Blitz set from Chess Bazaar. This next part is harder to explain but I'll try.... the board is solid wood and its border is few millimetres thicker than the playing surface and thus, underneath the board is a hollow space - what this means in practice is that the pieces make a really lovely 'thunk' sound as they are moved. Hard to explain but enjoyable to experience. happy.png

From whom did you buy this set?

DrewGainer
Amazon, but it originates from a smaller website called BestChessSet.com. It’s got the same style of pieces in 2.5, 3, and 3.5 inches, and other inexpensive sets. It’s where I’d recommend if you want an economical wooden set. The pieces are weighted and have some imperfections, like in the knights’ manes, but they’re still nice.

I just made another chess set.  Still not perfect...maybe the next one!  Made out of padauk and hard maple.  1

Beautiful work, Sir!  Some of these guys might be placing orders soon, "perfect" or not!

That's so cool making your own set! I would love to say ' oh crap, I broke my bishop! Oh never mind, I just make another one'. A famous line from mister Jacmatter.

Very nice @kelamingo! happy to see other people’s works. I know from experience that maple is quite difficult to turn, you need to be very precise to get a smooth surface.

TheOneCalledMichael

Mister Jacmater! How have you been?! It's been long time since we've been hearing from you, how is finalizing of your wonderful set going? happy.png

jacmater

haha, I'm still here! very busy but without stop! I made the mistake of starting another project while having not finished the one I was working on, in any case, the Duv set is close to be finished

It's okay, you're still my hero happy.png

Oh, I love the visible grain <3

And I'm a particular fan of maple wood grin.png
