RobertoLM, after looking at the sets you have picture for a few days, I have decided.

I want to get this set:

I also still want this set, to use with the kids in the school Chess Club I run:

Now, on the second one, I have contacted the place but the lady dropped the ball over the last weekend.

Anyway, is the first set still being made and sold?  If it is, can you direct us to a way to buy it?

And if you know of another way to get the fun, second set, I would appreciate it.  Well, my kids in the club certainly would appreciate it.

Just the second.

Usually, the price is in "Pesos Mexicanos" ($) no Dollars.

Another economy Mexican chess set. The "Toscano".

The set in the small picture, where is it listed?, please

@EinMal

That's a picture of an "Ajedrez Olímpico King'. The don't make it anymore. The best one can do is try to search in  webpages like mercadolibre.com.ar to see if there is one listed.

Gracias por el enlace.
Los sistemas allí son muy caros.
uno es un tallado de madera que parece un juego de piedra tallado que tengo.
Gracias de nuevo

I'm waiting for one "Reikjavik inspired" in México too. I want!

I wanted to try out the camera on an older digital camera I have tonight, so I made a short video messing about with some of the pawns I own and demonstrating their stability.

There are six pawns in the video and in order of appearance they are

1. Small glass pawn I have painted white (glass chess sets irritate me but when painted they are tolerable for playing with).
2. Small plastic pawn which has been weighted with bb's.
3. Felted, but unweighted pawn from a set of Mexican origin.
4. Weighted boxwood pawn from House of Staunton's "Championship Series"
5. Pawn of unknown wood from an old coffee house style set from Hungary.
6. Large weighted boxwood pawn from chess bazaar's 4.8" club sized chess men.

By far the best pawn in the group is the coffee house pawn.  It is extremely stable even without being weighted or felted.  You can feel much more thought was put into its design than the others.  I believe this pawn can't be so far off from the Dubrovnik pawn which has been praised in many places.

Here is the video: https://my.mixtape.moe/htucir.webm

Note: my chess board is covered in a thick coating of polyurethane and tung oil and cost about 20 bucks total.  I wouldn't do this sort of thing with a nice board!

Jack, great video. That coffeehouse pawn just wouldn't tip, would it? Reminded me of Jonas's "talking hand" videos. He did some stability and pawn tests, too.

I bought this board: https://odetowood.com/product/wood-chess-board-and-pieces/

It's really nice and pieces have a great feel. When I can save up some more money I'll probably buy their chess table.

Ryan, I own that board. It looks great, but I have yet to play on it. I looked at the chess table on their website. It seems to have little room for a chess clock, captured pieces, scoresheets, chess study books, or libations. The apron around the board should be much wider if you're actually going to play on the board.

I've played a game with a set like this in a public cafe.  They were unweighted, unfelted and very tippy.  The pieces are gorgeous, but but not very playable.  This seems to be a common theme in the less expensive sets from Mexico.

Hehe , yeah , I know. So I'm working with the school of crafts of the National
Institute of Fine Arts ; seeing how well they can handle our local woods not
endangered species. This is based on the model of the 1973 championship .

I would never guess that was anything but boxwood and shesham looking at the photos.  That set would stand up against anything from India by the looks of it.

There are persimmon trees that grow all over my home state.  Persimmon is a relative of ebony, and sometimes I've wondered if the wood is suitable for making chess pieces.  I could easily obtain enough for several sets.

That's great Roberto!!

Are they going to offer chess sets for sale soon? We have great carvers in México.

I hope. When Queen broke for the tenth time , there was such reactions " I do not want to know aboutchess in my life " ; but hopefully the project curdle at school.

Yeah I love the board. It's actually the only board I own. But yeah, the table isn't really designed for the serious competitors. I don't play with a clock so that isn't a top priority for me. I think there is another table with a much larger apron but it's a lot more expensive. ~$2400.

If I had a table built for me with only one unremovable board, I'd get the board with 2.375" squares to accodate the widest range of piece sizes. The table I have has a removable top, so I can use a large variety of boards with it.

As a birth in Mexico , I learned to identify the tower as the thin piece : after I met the models of other countries and everything changed.

This soviet chess set came from Latvia. The box has some text, I hope somebody can help me with the translation.

Nice set, informaticacobach29. Although I cannot translate the inscription, I can surely appreciate the penmanship.
