Now that's a nice birthday present....Hope you get much pleasure from that really fine set.
Post Your Chess Sets

@ungewichtet I love unique-looking chess boards with a lot of colors/patterns. Beautiful chessboard you got there.
Thanks! Now I just need someone to play. (Any 800 elo rapid, 400 blitz players in Central Florida, US?) That is the coolest thing about chess.com.... always someone to play.

I just took advantage of the Black Friday deals to get this House of Staunton Classic Series set from US Chess. I have an ebonized British Staunton set already, but I was looking for something that was more of a match and less of a contrast with my 2" Repachados Ferrer walnut/maple board. I am VERY pleased with this set, especially at the sale price - the peppery rosewood color is gorgeous!

Thank you howthefkdoichess! That is my only board that is decorative throughout. These below are patterns you can find on Spanish boards but they are "only" for the outer region and the edges. --Not that a lot of colour and patterns was needed, as long as you find love and heart in the making

Hi everybody. Im more of a chess tinkerer than a player. Not only does the game have great mechanics, but sets and boards are art. Anywho I found an old Drueke board and I was hoping to find some info on it. Ive done some digging but haven't found much. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Im hoping to find a date range, maybe a photo of a catalog. All is have is its series number 173, it has 2” squares.

@ungewichtet - I missed this post - lovely board. Boards, like pieces, can be functional or bold display pieces, or sometimes… both. Along with pieces, I enjoy collecting a few boards or different sizes and designs. Usually what appear to be one-off locals finds made by now anonymous woodworkers.

Great find … I’d be interested in understanding what the little marker is on the I edge of the board too.👍

I don’t know the date of yours. Someone at CB&E told me the Drueke boards with stickers go as far back to the 50s. I can’t remember the thread. The boards with the stamped model like yours and the etched Play a way boards pre-dates those boards. Here is a Play a way board https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/drueke-65-2-5-sq-vintage-perfection
Here is a board that was auctioned on eBay. The seller said it was pre-1950s.

My new Lasker Pattern Staunton chess set from Chessbazaar in Ebony and Boxwood. And my new kitten Loke who I recured off the streets about 2 weeks ago. And who is very fond of the chess sets and pieces. And not in a good way!
