Could anyone here with a House of Staunton Chess Set let me know the weights of the pieces? https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/how-heavy-are-house-of-staunton-chess-pieces

I gave up trying to use the chess.com app. Just use your internet browser like Chrome. And post using the browser.

Apps and smartphones are for kids, you know.

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well. I recently got my second chess set and it just happens to be a very beautiful magnetic foldable travel chess set 10". Courtesy of Royal Chess Mall they sent me one to do a review on. If anyone is on the lookout for a travel chess set, I did a video review on my YouTube channel (itsiqbalgaming). This is my first chess set where both chessmen and board are made out of wood. I think it's the same one as @hayesmills - Hope anyone can give the video a shot, as it is completely unbiased as it is not a paid review, nor did I sign/agree to anything with Royal Chess Mall for me to say anything specific. Meaning I was able to say everything and anything that came to my mind. thumbup

Wouldn’t mind help identifying the set in the final photo.

@november78 I think that's a 40s Lardy. Very nice find!

@broomstuck - Nice! I think that may be it, but my king is 87mm. Big help. Thanks!

These style sets I think were being made in the 1920s-1930s, but I can't say they weren't made in the 1940s as well. They are on my short list of favorite French sets, so stylish. This one is a 3.75", I have a few others around 3".

BrownishGerbil

Fabulous bishops in those sets!

@beachero @brownishgerbil -

next up, how to clean them and consider restoration. I like the fact they are used and old looking, so I don’t think I want to take them back to like new condition. But they need cleaning for sure.👍🏼

I clean up my vintage sets with a damp old tshirt and wipe them down. Some get a deeper clean, some a gentle wipe. Cotton swabs too for crevices. I think some sets will look better without a deep cleaning as the decades of handling and accumulation create an irreproducible patina. The worn french polish on black pieces is beautiful, I would not paint them! But it sounds like that is not your intention anyway. Too many beautiful old sets have come across my hands ruined by someone else's bad paint job. Once cleaned, they can be worked with some Renaissance Wax.

@beachero - thank you! I don’t want to paint them, just clean and restore what is present. The handles look is super nice. 👍🏼

@beachero What a beauty of a set! Those bishops and knights have so much character. I've been looking for one but they're not common for sure!

That room looks like the room of a person obsessed with anime, but it's chess instead.

This was a little bit funny the first time I saw it but that was long ago.
