Hey thepatriotbraveheart, just curious why both the knights and rooks have kingside stamps? Doesn’t that deceit the point of knowing which piece is the kingside? I love the set though, its just the stamps that I question!

Interesting; I didn’t even notice! Are those stamps even used nowadays? I heard they were used for a now archaic notation style. I guess it’s just a stylistic rather than functional feature at this point.

Still curious to go against the historic convention. But the stamps do look cool to be fair.

Quite an interesting thread. I got one wooden set passed down by my grandfather. Don't have a picture yet but will post it here for sure.

I find the stamping cool and nice 😊 I know it’s odd but I want them to be in all my knights and rooks for uniformity 👌🏻

I noticed the double stamping but wasn't going to mention it so as to not risk bringing down the vibe. Now I'm curious if you requested the double stamping or did the set just arrive that way?

Here I present a 1974 Olympiad Lardy (aka:The GIGA LARDY) 4.75" in. King. They are on a Vintage Drueke No.65 -2.75" in. squares chess board. Just like Chuck says, it is the only size board that these pieces fit well on! Hope you like them...

The black and brown look cool together! Are they both stained maple?

This is one of my favorites - An American Civil War Chess set! Re fight the bloodiest war on the North American Continent! The craftsmanship is EXCELLENT!

Definitely need some background info on these antique pieces. They look amazing despite their condition. They're surely quite old and have some good stories behind them. 🤔🤔🤔

I think this chess set was made in France, but I'm not entirely certain about its origins.

I've been considering buying this. I like how different it is.

From Royal Chess Mall - 1972 Fischer Spassky Repro - The "Bud" Rosewood was a worthwhile upgrade
Newly acquired on ebay "Mordovian Chess Set 1970's" - shipped from Ukraine, arrived in 9 days.
I love my classic Lardy sets "for when you want to play chess!"
As a teenager in the late 1960's, I played with my Dad every night on this set. Surprisingly playable! Is it ok that I still enjoy these pieces?

Does the black queen of the first set have a wider collar and crown, or is that perspective distortion? I really like those exaggerated proportions.

And beautiful rooks in the second set; always nice to see rooks with brickwork!

Thanks! About the queen in the first set, I think the black queen does appear somewhat larger.

Interesting! Thanks for that information. I honestly didn’t know who made them—those knights have quite a toothy appearance.
