I just joined to share a "thank you" for the wealth of information here that helped me find a family for our marble board. The board is 50+ years old and the unique set we procured is about the same. Perfect!

Thanks

Ok, I suddenly realize I am not sure how I get a photo uploaded but if someone can provide guidance I will. It's a continental set paired with a pink and black marble board.

Click the Insert Image Icon (second from the left) and then either uplouad a picture from your unit or link to one.

Thanks for replying, I only see options for editing text, for example bold, list, font size etc. Perhaps because I'm on the trial membership.

Good day!

Posting photos isn't enabled until you've been a member for some amount of time (not sure exactly how long). Don't forget us! wink

Upload was enabled. Again, thank you so much to this site and the info I learned that helped find this set. It was a bit of a challenge.

This set is double weighted. I think they look great on this board. I have the original box, board, and label.

Looking through this section I see many very nice and unique sets. Seems I left some critical information out of my post.
The set is a Gallant Knight Continental, double weighted with a 4 3/4" King. Production started in the 50's. Most of these sets are shorter and mono in color. Super unique? Dunno, some of these were made in Japan.

This is my so called "2nd set". I bought the board and metal pieces with it last year, however I didn't quite like those original metal pieces, they felt too small for me. Solution? I tried my first chess pieces. They are birchwood and were made in Finland by family called Tanni. The used birchwood is from their own forest. They are designed after old existing set and named after the small rural town of Tyrvää. Sadly they don't make these pieces anymore. As far as I know these were only wooden Finnish chess pieces handmade and with some availability in recent decades. Obviously that board is too crowded and these pieces only just fit in their squares, but somehow I still like the combo.

You're not the only person who likes that combo.....Quite fine looking.

I love the idea of a set handmade in ones own country and from native wood.

So the screen on the laptop had this nice place in Czechia on it and I noticed the chess set outside right at the top of the big wall.

Just splurged on my first (mostly clearance) wooden chess set. HoS had this camphor burl and maple 2.25" board for $99, and I found a reseller for these Soviet Latvian (Mordovian) pieces on eBay here in the US. I think it looks great, the board is a little darker than pictured on the House of Staunton website, but it actually matches well with the Indian Rosewood black pieces. I'm really happy about my purchase so had to make this my first post on this forum

Very nice! The board looks good and the set looks like it's in great shape!

Yes, I am truly in love with it, one of the knights separated from the peg, probably during shipment, but I figure a little wood glue should get it all back together well

This set is the right size and color for the Seirawan Chess pieces.
