I like that set quite a bit.....Did you get it as a repro? If so where? Very nice!
Post Your Chess Sets

@magictwanger - thank you! This is not a repro, but an original. Chessbazaar offered a similar set as repro, but in my view it does not really do justice to the original.
Yes,I figured that....I just realized I own the C.B. Repro....You sure do have some fabulous sets and the display is superb.....Not to mention you have damn good taste.
Enjoy your prizes

Don't stab yourself picking up that queen.

That queen doesn't compare to the King of my Bucephalus set. I've caught my sleeve on it a few times.

Picked up a very basic Vienna Coffeehouse style set, probably made in the German Erzgebirge region, sometime during the 1930s-40s. Bare-bones, but I thought it was cute. Unweighted, unfelted, with 8.9cm kings. For €20 I think they're all right.
Wow, that's really a lovely set. Like @Alena_str, I would love to know where you bought it from.

basic Vienna Coffeehouse style set
Very nice, I'm (pleasantly) surprised by that dark brown, Vienna sets are usually white/black, right? Also, no opposite color bishop finials? Interesting.
Anyway, I have a soft spot for Vienna sets, as this style of sets (albeit in much simpler form, minimal details, cheapest finish imaginable) were most commonly available in my youth (in former Yugoslavia), made by the now defunct Subozan workshop in Subotica.

Having purchased my first set late last year - I still love it; even more actually. It seems the colour and grain of the light pieces is becoming deeper - it's hard to show in photos. The photos appear lighter than in the flesh but check out the bishop in the back of the photo of the knight - that's more the 'true' colour of the pieces. I enjoy the feel and depth of the black pieces too. So glad I picked up this hobby. Love playing too. Having a great time.

"Sound".....Do you have anymore room for the violins?
It's getting crowded.
I guess you'll just need to drink some beer to clear the space?!?
I recently bought this ca. 1900 German "Onion Top" chess set. King size is 4.6". The black king developed a bit of a lean in the upper part. The interesting thing about this set are the knights, which are not made of wood, but of some composite material, probably an early form of plastic. The material is a bit comparable to the xylonite used for the knights in some BCC sets.
