Printing BCE Blitz prototypes

Sort:
Avatar of ifekali

I am working of an improved blitz version of BCE pieces (better stability, tuned up design details), printed a couple of prototype sets on my trusted Prusa 3d printer, I finally figured out how to print the knights properly. Tried some colors just because. Weighted and felted, wooden sets to follow at Noj.

I could, but I am not fond of the idea. Nobody likes fake leather, for example. For a wooden look nothing beats wood. So why not do something the material offers that wood can't do, say vibrant colors.

Anyway, I will be printing these on order, you can pick your preferred poison. You want wood, you got it. Also, I am open to customizing the pieces, say imprinting a name, sizing,  etc.

Now you're pushing it.

I like the yellow, and would be curious about price. It would be great if this could be your economy set. The design is classic in line.

It'll be a two digit number. Barely.

You never walk into a store and set your own prices, now do you?

Why now? Why the attitude?

Good advice. Dark pieces are pitch black, I cannot think of a better color (for plastic pieces). In my opinion best combo is black vs. vanilla white, a tad darker than pure white (which works too).

Red works both ways, as dark pieces against white, or as light pieces against pitch black. I tried it years ago on my old printer, see here:

I have to agree with you, W&B plastic look is the best. Are they still available?

No, but I can print you a new set in a couple of days.

I would definitely be interested in purchasing a set if the shipping is not too steep.

I'll know shipping charges Monday.

I’m interested

I'm very interested as well.

Western style as well?

Have you considered a slightly  off-white creme color for white.

And a dark grey for black?

Would it be same to assume an extra set of queens  could be had for a little extra?

Avatar of ifekali

Yes, I can do Western. I am somewhat limited in choice of color, as I keep only a handful of filament spools handy. I will surely be experimenting with combinations, but for now I have only black/vanilla white/pure white/red/blue/yellow available. Extra queens are no problem.

If you have a particular combo in mind, there will be some wait for me to purchase the material.

@ifekali Here is an idea for a much smoother looking end product without the time consuming sanding process to get rid of print lines. According to Joel in this video. Best results from a 240 grit sanding once then putting it in the machine. Your pieces look nice but with those 3D print lines. It is a big turn off in presentation for me.

Thanks for your suggestion, there are many ways to modify the look of printed parts, if there is interest, anything can be done. In this particular case a special material must be used (polysmooth) straining the budget.

@ifekali You are welcome. Here is a PLA option. This guy used 3D Gloop which is designed more of a PLA adhesive but he found that you can use it to smooth your PLA 3D prints.

@ifekali I know that you said that you wouldn't do wood PLA printing for this set. However I personally like to have that option. There was an Aussie who made a Dubrovnik in Bamboo PLA and it looks quite good.
