I received my printed set earlier this week, but haven't had a chance until now to post photos and my impressions.
Showing the Ultimate Chess pieces next to their counterparts in the BCE Blitz set.
The pieces are on a red Bobby Fischer mousepad board that I ordered especially for the set. Jonas recommended red for the yellow and black pieces, and I think they work well with them. The black pieces show up better on the red squares than with darker colors. In From the photo with the BCE pieces placed next to their Ultimate set counterparts you can see that they are very close in size, the BCE pieces being slightly taller, but not a lot. I thought that the BCE base sizes, especially the bishops, were larger, but when I put them base to base, they were almost identical. The BCE bases just seem to be larger because the pieces are slenderer in form. The BCE pieces are lighter than the ultimate, but just as stable, due to their low center of gravity design, making them well suited for blitz, I imagine. I'm going to be using them to play with friends, and to teach my kids chess. Both kids like the look and feel of them a lot. I think the BCE design is beautiful, combining classic form and clean modern lines, and I am grateful that Jonas has made them available for many of us, and at an affordable price for custom pieces.
The felting and weighting are excellent, by the way.
Great photos, thanks for sharing. At first look at the third photo, I had thought you had ordered a Western-styled King but as I read the caption underneath it was a common Tournament set found here in the states. I would order the additional Western 3-D printed Kings and bishops once Izmet gets those details worked out for strength factors. The wood set perhaps later on in the latter months of 2020 for a possible purchase from Noj.
