Question On Chessbase Light (Filtering for Endgames)

Hi All,

I am trying to filter a game database (mine) looking for games that have gotten down to a total of 7 pieces or fewer.  I know that I once used ChessBase Light to do this, but I can't remeber how I did it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Dave, this is a great question.

Are you sure you once used Chessbase Light to do this?

I looked at Chessbase Light and I don't see an option for this.  Furthermore, I checked out Chessbase, Scid vs. PC, Fritz, and a few other chess database programs I have.  Maybe I'm just missing it, but I don't see how to do this in any of these programs.

And then I thought maybe the old but still useful PGN Extract program would be able to.  I looked at the documentation file for this program and I don't see how to do it in this program either.

I could write my own little utility to open a PGN file and extract all such games, but I'm not sure if it's worth my time.  (It would take me a few hours, minimum, probably.)  I don't have a need for it myself and I don't know how many others would either.

I'll keep my eyes open.  Note that eventually someone else will read this post and describe how it can be done.  I'm sure some existing utility can do it.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the reply.  The more I look into this, the more I question whether I used Chessbase Light to do it.  I'm about 99% positive that I was able to do it with some utility, but at the moment I can't recall which one.  Ah, the joys of aging Tongue Out
