Read Silman's workbook first?

I would also wait until Silman publishes the 4th edition of RYC - it is apparently totally rewritten, and the 3rd edition will then be misleading you concerning Silman's current theories...

I have all of Silman's books and have never really been able to get into them (at least not happily.) But this morning I started reading the Reassess Your Chess Workbook, and I felt it was something I could get into and enjoy and grow from. I liked it!
