You can probably even drive there and pick it up yourself. :-)

A really good interview with the maestro and expert on all things chess,  Frank Camaratta

If that interview was recorded this year Frank would be around 75 years old. He looks very good for his age.

Wow, lots of good looking pieces there. Thanks, @GM4-U! I'll probably make an order as soon as I can make up my mind as to whether I want the Championship Series 3.5" or the Reproduction 1854 3,5", both of which look very attractive.

I have just one piece of advice: The recommended chess board sizes listed on your site are consistently way too small. For instance, here is the page for one of the two sets mentioned above:

https://www.chesssetsusa.com/collections/luxury-chess-pieces/products/championship-series-3-5-ebony-wood-staunton-chess-pieces

A 1.75" board for 1.625" pieces is going to be extremely crowded and uncomfortable. I'd go with a 2.125" or 2.25" board for these pieces.

FIDE recommends that the diameter of the king base should be 78% (this is from memory) of the square size. So it shouldn't be difficult to work out a formula.

Thank you for the heads up, we will check descriptions over , thanks

Hmm, there seems to be a problem with my chess.com account - as a diamond member, I shouldn't be seeing adverts but this thread appears to be full of them

Personally, I see nothing wrong with having a small contest that gives away a chess set worth 100's of dollars or euros or sterling.  Some people have advertised on here in the past that they were getting rid of chess books and sets and to email them. I mean they were giving nothing away.

I can not see where this harms or puts at risk chess.com at all but you sure can disagree with me.

Carl, am I right in thinking that people are to give a write-up of a set they already own in order to win another set like they already own? Or that people should write about how much they like the set - based on pictures they've seen - in order to win the set?

By the way - I for one don't care that you're advertising here, and it will be highly entertaining to see what comes from your latest little scheme - Del-Boy would be proud!

Chess.com is based in the United States so our national customs apply.

The term advert is British and is meant to be an abbreviation of advertisement.  We don't want you British and your words to be misconstrued like pervert instead of advert happy.png

The above is neither an advertisement nor an advert.  "What?!?", you say?

No indeed in this country what he is doing is called a promotion.  It is certainly not an advertisement.

If Carl will promise not to give me a set like that under any circumstances, I am prepared to continue putting up with his cheapo promos.

Carl, That would be a lose-lose for you. OK no more Mr. Nice Guy.

The reason I post negatively is that I do not like you.

GM-4U, I appreciate that you’re advertising, building a business and trying to promote yourself to your customer base; there are a lot of folks here that, I am sure, buy your sets and really like them. BUT, if you’re going to put yourself and your wares on here, it’s a risk you take that someone takes a shot at you. This isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last. Disclaimer, I am friends with Alan and Frank and a whole host of others.

The guy was just trying to give a really nice set away for FREE. Very hard to believe he gets attacked on here. Like I said others have outright announced they were selling part of their collection and not one word.  I read the TOS and I did not see any infractions of him running a promo for an absolute FREE SET that includes FREE POSTAGE to anywhere. I wish all the chess vendors would do that.

Just to note I did enter a contest that was advertised on here by someone who had a relationship with that company, will not name any names. The contest was if they like our idea and make the set they would award you with a set. That was about 3-4 years ago. I never did get that set and they did use my idea. Now that is what I call being used and running a FAKE contest.
