My set is about to go to be sold to a dealer.
Maybe I should hold off and sell privately as the tournament Jaques board took a long time to source and matches the ages of the set exactly (1910-1915)!
I see it's on eBay - I think it will sell quickly at that price.
Best of luck with it!
It's a seller's market. "Get while the gettin's good"
There are a lot of buyers out there with a ton of disposable income at the moment. I see this in the collectible trading card market, comic books, original art, etc.
If people want a limited item bad enough and they have the money to throw around — to them — it's "worth it".
Yep. There is the old adage about "A Fool and His Money are soon parted. "...anyone who does not play Chess and views buying a set with a few minor problems -- "no losses spare one chip to a Knight's ear. 3 Pawns, 2 Bishops and one Knight have hairline cracks to the bases" is indeed a FOOL and deserves to be taken advantage of. There is no way in Hell they will be able to offload that set, when you cab buy one of Tim's fully restored sets for a fraction of the price you paid $ 3K - 5K for the set that has a few minor problems with it. Anyone to pays that sort or money had just a well as hang a sign around that says "Kick Me.".
