Looks amazing! Why am I not surprised. Intentionally left off the question mark.happy

I agree Carl, the Knights are rather spectacular looking. Let's hope you don't %*#K the set up by "antiquing" them.

I'd have only two questions:

1) What are the size/s the sets will be offered in?? Is it too much to hope for that they would be offered in 4.0" and 4.4" -- both Club Size sets.

2) Will they be WEIGHTED? There are a lot of people out there who can not use UNWEIGHTED sets.

Me? I would REFUSE to buy any "REPRODUCTION" set that would be "ANTIQUED" that is not a CLUB SIZED set of at least 4.0" or 4.4", and is UNWEIGHTED. The next question that everyone is dying to know is HOW MUCH are you going to be asking for these sets?

Hi azbobcat -

This collection is an exact reproduction of my personal Jaques 1849/50 chess set featuring a 3.5-inch king. I entrusted the set to my workshop for precise duplication of the original.

Out of the 30 sets produced, 5 will remain unweighted, while the remaining sets will be weighted with felt and lozenge. Each set will be accompanied by a label.

Priced at approximately £549, we believe this is a fair and competitive cost for an authentic Jaques replica. We take pride in being the pioneers in replicating such an historic Jaques set directly from an original physical specimen

While it’s above my price point, that seems remarkable value. Well done. 👍Interestingly, and big caveat - I do not play tournaments or at clubs - mostly just the pub, with friends… I am loving smaller sets and could I afford it … 3.5” would be perfect. To all those that are lucky enough to get these… enjoy - as your families will forever and a day.

Absolutely beautiful! I hope they are available for a long time. I can’t imagine how high the requests will be!

BrownishGerbil

Incredible craftmanship!

TundraMike

It sure has the WOW FACTOR. How much extra would I add to ship to the US?

magictwanger

Deserves to sell out fast! I'll bet it does.

TundraMike

The conversion rate for all those in the US and Canada as of yesterday is 1 GBP = 1.26755 USD and 1.700473 CAD

This is a set you pass down to a family member who cares about chess sets. Like I always said chess sets that are being made today and whose standards are above and beyond will be tomorrow's collectible sets.

Very Nice Looking Set!! Trivia Question: The BLACK pieces are EBONY (I assume) and the the White pieces are BOXWOOD, what are the BROWN pieces made of?

Observation 1: The BROWN piece which is (I assume) a KING, is missing the Cross Finial.

The “ brown pieces” are the original 1849/50 jaques set

The set looks magnificent, preordered.

Amazing copy of the original, the only way to better this set is to keep it for 170 years.

If I were not retired and watching a fixed income, along with the non stop gifts (happily given) for 5 little grandkids, a bathroom to refinish and owning a total of 25 sets incl. 4 boards already, I'd have been first in line.....The wife keeps a running count of how many sets I now own.....Ha!

Impractical

If I were to visit the UK, where might I pick one up (so as to stuff it in my travel bag while heading home)?
