Request information about a chess board and pieces

Good morning.

I bought this beautiful chess from someone who posted it online, I don't know if it is original or not from Bohemia - is there any way to find out some information about it?

Thank you

That is definitely an original. Here is the ad from the ca. 1990 catalogue.

PS: I am currently working on a company history of Bohemia. Publication will take a long time, but I will announce in this forum once ready.

Thank you very much for your reply,

yes, it is exactly as advertised (inside the blue line) .

I am eagerly waiting for the topic you are working on, the History of Bohemia Company

What is the second board with the grid pattern ?

is it similar to igo or othello?

@Mahran981

really nice set, very well made!

Boydcarts

The other board is for a game called "Nine Mens Morris", also known as "Mills".

That will be great. I tried to find more information about Bohemia when I found this set but I couldn't. This set is probably the predecessor of the classic Bohemia set with "Chicken-head" knights. What do you think about this set?

@Boydcarts

Thanks for the reply!

I'll google it.

This is a fantastic early set from the time when the Bohemia company was re-established in Querfurt in East Germany after the war. That was in 1945. The new logo, as imprinted on the board in post #1, was introduced already before the founders fled to West Germany in 1952. When exactly the new logo was introduced, I cannot say for sure, but assuming it was around 1950, the label in your box indicates that your set dates to around 1945-1950. Here is the label on one of their business cards from that time.

Great information, thanks! That was my biggest doubt. I know that "Bohemia" is a company from West Germany and this logo is so DDR-ish. You are free to use these images for publication if you need them. Here is a picture of the whole set:

That is fantastic, thank you so much for the pictures and your permission to use them for the publication. It will still take a long time to finish, as of now "Bohemia" is just one chapter of four and I have a lot of information and documents to review before writing up everything.

Very much looking forward to it!
