Review: Custom Chess Board from S&G Woodworks

Just wanted to post a review on here of a recent purchase of a custom made chess board I had done by S&G Woodworks.

After looking for a solid wood chessboard and receiving a couple I was less than thrilled with I set out looking for a solid wood board with a high level of craftsmanship. Was recommended MTM (which I looked at but none of the designs worked for me) and JLP which were just too expensive to ship here (almost the same price as the board itself). Being in Australia did make things more difficult.

I found a store on etsy who had fantastic reviews and from the customer pictures seemed to make very nice Drueke boards. I've learned to be very cautious with Etsy as I've found a lot of the "handmade" items are just drop shipped mass produced things at huge mark ups.

What can i say - from the onset the store was excellent. They were helpful and responsive and were more than willing to make the board to my specifications. They allowed me to be part of the process and shared photos along the way of the board being built. This allowed me to make sure I was happy with it before receiving it and also allowed a couple of corrections along the way where things I thought would work... didn't. Can't rate the sellers interactions highly enough - one of the best purchasing experiences I have ever had.

I guess some photo's will help. Its a large board. 2.5" squares. 3" boarder. Squares are walnut and chessnut. Inner boarder and edge boarder are european oak and boarder is walnut. I wouldn't say I'm a chess board connesuir but I think it turned out great and I'm extremely pleased with it.

All in all super happy with the experience so thought I'd share with others here as a recommendation.
