Scid vs PC stopped working on Windows 10

Today my Scid vs PC-4.19 stopped working on Windows 10 (probably after an update). I have removed the program and installed it again, but it still does not work. When I try to start the program I get an error message: 'Error in startup script: could not readlink "C:\Users\...\scid.exe": not a directory while executing "file readlink $scidExecutable" invoked from within "if {$scidExecutable == {}}{ ### may work on windows, but will be broken on other OS set scidExeDir .} else{ if {[file type $scidExecutable] = ... (file "C:\Users\...\scid.gui" line 254)'. Anybody with the same problem? Any ideas how to fix it?

Try uninstalling, then deleteing the install directory completely before reinstalling. Sounds like you have a persistant (broken) options.dat file or something.

Do you have the latest update, 4.19, released March 15, 2018?  It's working for me under Windows 10.

Yes, I have tried to uninstall, remove the directory and install again the newest update (64-bit version), but it did not work. Now I have tried again, but this time I have taken 32-bit version and finally it works!

I like the functionality of Scid vs PC, it is very convenient for many things - analysis and annotating a game with and without an engine, database query, playing positions against computer and so on, and other alternatives I tried are a bit less convenient.

"Is chess.com's analysis is weaker than SCID ??"

Both SCID and chess.com analysis use some of the available engines, so it is the engine, not the interface, which define how strong the analysis is.

It's happening to me now. I did a google search and found this post. I guess I'll look at alternatives. Just SCID or I think there is one called ChessX. I really want the SCID based program because it works with my Novag Citrine board. Any update?
