Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I'll check them out.
Try Smartchess. It is new and I can use it to follow along with my move by move books.Their support team is very helpful and answers within a few hours

I use the Chess.com app for this. Just go to board setup, set it as a new game and you are good to move the pieces anywhere you want. I use it all the time to analyze chess positions.
I hope this is the right forum for my question. I'm looking for an iPad app that will allow me to use it as a simple chess board. I want to be able to set up situations and move the pieces from both sides so I can use the iPad to work through chess books. Is there an app that will allow me to do this easily? Thanks for any help.
