It is not modern, but what do you think of a Mordovian (aka Latvian) chess set? Or a Zagreb set? Or a minimalist Hermann Ohme?
Seeking a Contemporary Chess Set: Alternatives to DGT and World Chess
Regarding the Mordovian set, I appreciate the recommendation, but it's not really the style I'm looking for.
Thank you very much to mentioned the German shop Niggemann, I hadn't thought about checking foreign retailers for stock, and that's actually a very helpful idea. Plus it's in stock
That set is for eboards, and costs much more than a normal set. You need to see if the non-electronic set is also available.
The world chess studio set is a joy to play with, and has become my go-to set for quick games or analysis. The pieces are quite small compared to a 3.75” tournament set, but are well balanced. I really like the design, look and feel of the set. But, the craftsmanship is poor considering the ‘premium’ price tag.
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a high-quality chess set with a budget up to 500€. After some research, I've identified two sets I really like:
Both appeal to me because of their modern contempory design, minimalist forms, not the traditional look.
Unfortunately, the DGT Modern Staunton set is currently unavailable in France, and the feedback I've read on this forum has discouraged me from choosing the World Chess Studio Set.
I'm specifically looking for recommendations for other chess sets with a similar modern style, ideally well-made.
If you know alternatives comparable in spirit, I'd love your suggestions.
Thanks
