😊 DKW - Your no comment on the pieces is comment enough …. I’m pretty sure it’s a Lardy. I enjoy these and my old Dogface pieces too - old and basic, a bit like myself. 😆 As is probably obvious from my posts - I enjoy pieces of all shapes and sizes and more and more a desire for pre-Staunton pieces and/or interesting historical designs. Indeed, my tastes change with my mood - so I’m glad I have a wide variation of pieces to draw upon. Each to their own. 👍

This is a set I play with fairly often. It's very small, the board is 8inx8in which makes it hard to use for anything other than analysis or going through a historical game. My father-in-law gave it to me. He purchased it in Vietnam and it was hand crafted, each piece was shaped by hand. It's showing it age but I love it!

I like the fact that the pawn bases are smaller than the piece bases. Travel sets these days have the same sized bases.

Nothing wrong with same sized bases. It's a preference thing I guess.
I'm living with the travel set I bought. It's seven inches. Very well finished beautiful board. I reviewed a Capablanca game on a flight from Los Angeles to New Jersey. It fit perfectly on the tray with room for my ginger ale and snacks. My cell phone was set to the side on a little stand. Smooth flight. Game study in a tiny space. I forgot to compliment you on your set. Very nice.
@BoardMonkey and @DesperateKingWalk Thank a lot. He got it during the war, so late 60's while he was there. The imperfections between the pieces are what make it so nice. You can tell it was hand carved.

Lovely! Those light pieces look like they’ve been dipped in honey … should make for a sweet game! Sorry …. Dad joke! 🤦♂️

The imperfection is perfection in this case.
@Lotharen
The set is a cute little game.
However it looks too crowded with pieces being too big for the board.
I prefer to use my classic German Staunton timeless chess pieces. Plays super well in blitz and classic. Cheap and hard to destroy.
Budget wooden Staunton tournament type pieces with german knights in a folding board/case is what I use when I don´t go with plastic pieces and a roll up board.
Very nice and a wonderful board combo.I think boards don't get enough love.
