Slowly building my own "Chess Cave"

Wholesalechess.com has affordable demo boards in two sizes. The look of the pieces is my deciding factor.
That wooden version used by Lev in the pic looks very nice. I’ve never seen it sold anywhere on the usual sites in the US though.

Yes, this is understood and I did acknowledge that immediately when I answered you in return MT. But when in a museum items cannot be handled when behind glass, this is why I went further and explained that everything in the room will be used and not lay idle, nothing more...I hope this clears anything up that isn't crystal in my explanation. No harm was meant...sorry if it was taken that way....Peace.

A very robust tournament similar "Fischer-Spassky" type of set, but much heftier and with nice wide bases for stability.
Made of ebonized boxwood and regular boxwood in a buffed matte finish.

Those look very close to the Judit Polgar pieces by DGT. Non-electronic. The queen's crenelation the bishop's mitre are a tad different. These pieces are heavy and the base are quite wide as well.

Polgar chess set
- King height: 4"
- Base size: 1 5/8"
- King weight: 2.2 oz.
- Set weight: 39.4 oz.
Do you own this particular set?
The set I acquired came from the Chess Cafe website years ago.
Here's the breakdown which is heftier overall than the Polgar set.
- King Height: 4"
- Base Size: 1 7/8"
- King Weight: 3.12 oz.
- Set weight: 63.37 oz.
A very hefty and nice feel to it type of set. Believe or not I do not own a Fischer / Spassky set in wood. Only the Reykjavik plastic set I had obtained from the HOS.

As a matter of fact, I do have this lovely set. It came in a chess box that has felt inside and underneath the box just like a chess piece.
And that set that you have is definitely much heavier. What shall we call it? Fischer-Spassky or Reykjavik?

Your Reykjavik has pretty wide bases for each piece. How does it look on your largest chess board? What does your table say? 2.25" squares?

My tables will have 2 3/8" squares on the playing fields. One of the tables will have a center cavity where boards will be removable for a change of aesthetics according to the color sets I will be using on any particular day.
The other table has a permanent inlaid playing field comprised of maple and cherry wood playing squares with black walnut corner table accents. Both tables have yet to arrive at my residence because they are still both under the building process.
I should be getting the cherry, maple, and black walnut table by next week.
The other table perhaps in mid-October.
It should be quite an interesting pair of months ahead to continue the build of the "Cave".
As for my plastic, Reykjavik set, I haven't put that set yet on my biggest board, a 2.5" tournament board from the HOS. I believe the Reykjavik would look small on a 2.5" board better to size it up with a 2.25" to 2.36" board but none larger. Perhaps this newer wood I call Fischer Spassky or Reykjavik set would work on the 2.5" tournament board. I have 2 of them but no other in this largest sized board I own.

Very nice set. I have the same set. It was the Olympian set in 3.875" Ebonized Boxwood. Chess Cafe use to sell equipment back a few years ago. Before they stopped selling equipment. I got this set on a sweet deal. $38!!! This set looks more like a wooden version of the plastic Zurich set from HoS.

Good to know! Now I have a proper title for the set, "The Olympian" and it fits it perfectly being that it's so robust, nice weight, and plenty of heft. Thanks, KFC.

The vinyl-coated cutting board 6 slot rack works perfectly for vertical, upright storage of chessboards with a .5" thickness. I've obtained 2 of them to house a few of my veneered boards. Most of them are from the country of Spain.
My canine managed to get into the shot..
Here you can see the clearance that the individual separate slots will allow ample airflow between the boards.

Olympian sounds dramatic but appropriate.
How are the surfaces on that wire frame file stand? I'd add a layer of fabric on the contact points as a precaution unless you don't mind the addition of "character" on your veneer boards.
Finally, nice contrast. Your dog's spots, I mean.

They're vinyl-coated so there's no bare metal to have contact with or touch the wood. It's a cutting board rack designed for plastic or wood cutting boards near the kitchen sink washbasin. I just bought it and repurposed it. Yes, that's my little girl photobombing the shot, thanks for the compliment on her coat.
I’d recommend a demonstration chessboard. Perfect for chess study especially for those positions that require deep analysis where you can use the chess table in the middle of the room to do all the possible variations.
I had this one in mind but the company doesn't make them anymore. I had an individual mention to me that they could possibly find one exactly as the one pictured for me, but I never went further with the inquiry. Perhaps its time to revisit this possibility with that particular individual once again.
