How about a gigantic screen to watch chess on?

beachstud

XxDarkKnight402xX

I want to build a chess cave at some point in my life now lol, adding it to my bucket list. Wish you the best of luck mate, sounds like a very fulfilling project.

Just so you know...

  • The Olympian at 4" is plenty of size for a king and heft of a set for me
  • My large screen purchase will probably come either on Black Friday or before the Super Bowl
  • I'm still trying to find that print of the Grandmasters illustration gathered myself
  • Thank you for your encouragement on my build

Thank you gentlemen for your candid inputs given on this post.

You will not be here anymore when it is done? Pity ,it would be nice to see the finished project.

I will use these 8 veneered boards and 2 "Drueke" styled boards to swap out with my second table with the empty cavity.

As follows from left to right in 3 ranks below. The last image is of a veneered board from Spain just like the other 7 shown. All playing squares are 60 mm in size with the exception of the Grey "Deluxe' which is a 55 mm board.

  • Mahogany "Deluxe" Diagonal
  • Palo Santos Palisander "Deluxe"
  • Green "Deluxe"
  • Brown "Deluxe"
  • Sycamore/Sapele "Standard"
  • Red "Deluxe"
  • Purpleheart/Maple/ Cherry "Drueke" style board (Colorado Woodworker item)
  • Peruvian Walnut/Maple/Cherry "Drueke" style board (Colorado Woodworker item)
  • Blue "Deluxe"
  • Grey "Deluxe"

A transforming table. When your back starts to ache sitting at the same table, you can always take the board somewhere else.

Another idea and still available for purchase for the wall.

Very true, but I will be purchasing a pair of nice cushioned leather chairs for "The Cave" so there won't be much travelling outside of the room to play matches.

Yes but I'm really interested in the style of the TATA STEEL type demonstration boards which are easier on the eyes.

As a matter of fact, I'm in current planning talks with a crafter to make the board exactly as shown with nicer-looking symbols relatively in the same size of board dimensions and symbol and square sizes which are about 3-inch playing squares and about 2 3/4" size for the symbols in height and 2" in width.

Like this image that I had posted previously.

Where’s the website to buy it from?

It's not on any known website it's a special order from a custom woodworker. And that's all he wrote...

That’s why I don’t bother with custom one-offs. Too expensive.

A few more posters that will adorn my "Chess cave"...

I am done with collecting chess sets. I have what I want so there is no need to get anymore.

That's a great photo image of Morgan Freeman and his wise counsel.  Thanks.
