Square Off computer info.

I have noticed information on the Square Off sets is limited so here are some details. The board itself has no engine. It uses a free app you download on your phone. The engine on the app is Stockfish 10, with 20 levels. Every level takes one second or less to move so at lower levels it is intentionally playing week moves. At Lev 20, it is full strength StockFish but it only thinks for one second at most and can't be modified. On a fast phone, im guessing 3000+ elo, Squareoff says 3300. You can play anyone who has the app and their moves would auto play on your set. Playing chess.com players is also possible. On the Grand Kingdom model, you can stream games well. Several of the reviews on Amazon and other sites suggest that there are frequent mechanical failures but I have not noticed any personally .

Thanks for that interesting piece of information. That's of course a no-go for any serious chess computer enthusiast, even worse - much worse - than the limitations on DGT's Centaur. Guess one has to wait for the upcoming Millennium Performance or Certabo DaVinci for a stylish *and* serious contender.

I am guessing they are focusing solely on playing, not studying. If their estimate that Stockfish at 1 second per move is 3300 elo, then they figure it will slaughter any human so no need to allow time control modifications. It would be great if they merged with DGT so we can have the best of both worlds.
