Updates: they were able to really shrink the board down and make it move at a lower volume level.  The deluxe board is gonna be able to load pgn files and move all the pieces into place.  Could be cool for running exercises, diagrams, studying famous games.

but bad news...they just posted an update within 2-3 days I guess.  Delayed shipments until july, first units arriving in august.

Thanks.  I'm in no hurry.  I'm just curious if the product turns out to actually be what it is purported to be...and if there are any problems with it...it's quite fascinating!

hmm it's just a board, it uses the program on your phone.  so if it's compatible with good engines, it's probably as good as stockfish, but I suppose cellphones aren't as fast as desktop computer, you have to give them time to be basically as good as a desktop engine

So the app on your cellphone controls the 20 difficulty levels? You cant play without a cellphone, can you? Thanks for your answer and please, pardon my ignorance. I could not find this info online.

Even the cellphone chess engines are furiously strong these days. More than a match for most of us!

I went ahead and watched all the reviews.  The engine is in your smart phone and communicates with the board via bluetooth.  Not the highest level of Stockfish, but enough to beat anyone short of GM strength.  I assume you could use a tablet as well as long as you can download the app.  Damn this looks fascinating and might rekindle my chess flames...

update: its shipping in september now lol.  but a commenter on the indiegogo boards mentioned it was 33 percent cheaper now than when he bought in!

A little small but very cool. Reminds me of the early plastic ones, so long ago. 

Does anyone know what the price is going to be after they finish shipping the original Kickstarter batch? 

I've had mine for two weeks. Great at first, but then all the problems start happening...app wont update, pieces are removed from the board on the wrong path knocking over other pieces, and now there's a loud rumbling sound and the board won't play. I wish I hadn't bought it and will be trying to get a refund.

That is unfortunate Bronzefeet - might is still working.  Hopefully they refund or replace for you.
