Suggestions on vendors to check out for chess clocks?

Hi everyone,

I'm teaching an after school chess program and while I have already bought the chess sets and boards I'm still in the hunt for clocks. I need 12. I don't have to get them right away but I want to start searching for this now so if a good deal pops up I can get right on it. Any vendors I should look at about this? This is self funded so I'm looking at the cheaper options for clocks, like the DGT North American for example. Anyway, suggestions on clocks and/or vendors to contact would be appreciated, thanks!

If I wanted a new DGT, I'd check out eBay.

As one example, I found this listing ---->> DGT North American Chess Clock

Edit: I'd also look at Amazon.  Sometimes vendors offer products at lower prices on Amazon than at their websites.

Yeah the best deal I've found so far is Amazon with free shipping (prime member) DGT chess clocks for $39.95.

Two vendors come to mind that will probably work with you for school kids. Whole Sale Chess (WSC) & American Chess Equipment (ACE).

I have personally bought off of WSC 2 years now in a row for chess sets I donate to the food pantry every December.  Tell them it is for school kids and they may give you an extra discount, for sure great service.

Also Shelby at ACE seems to be into supplying schools with equipment. While personally never asking him for a price for chess sets for the underprivaleged I wouldn't overlook his company for this.  He may surprise.  You will also get very good service from him.

USCF/House of Staunton may or may not have an extra discount for schools. I think off hand they might and it is only a phone call away to ask them.

Tell all three what you can buy the DGT/NA off of Amazon and see if anyone can beat it right out.

I just shopped for chess clocks for a local school.  They had $500 and wanted as many clocks as they could buy with that.  And because it was the school buying the clocks, we had to do the purchase order thing.  If you are buying them yourself, you don't need to hassle with that red tape.  I know that about 6 years ago, when I bought 12 clocks for the scholastic club I was running, I also was self-funded and it was easier.  Well it was more expensive for sure, but still easier.  And I still own the clocks and simply loan them to the club.

With Saitek stopping chess clock production awhile back, and the Excalibur no longer being made, lesser expensive clocks for club use are hard to find.  I now have 18 in my school clock bag and they are all the blue Saiteks and Excaliburs.

Talking with Scott, the manager at The House of Staunton, Raphael who owns The Chess House, Shelby of American Chess Equipment and a few others, we came to the best clock to buy for this purpose was the DGT North American.

DGT recently raised their wholesale prices so the retailers have brought their prices up for these clocks as well.  So now you see the list price for the DGT NA at $49.99.  This makes volume pricing higher as well.

The best price I found, about a month ago, was from Raphael at The Chess House.  However, if you can get the DGT NA for $39.95 and if you are a Prime member with free shipping, grab that deal as quick as you can.  No volume price that I could get was under $42 let alone under $40.

Good luck.

At the end of your journey do tell us who came thorough and at what price. Always nice to know who helps school kids out.
