Hahaha, "throw wood" just means an all-out OTB attack using every piece that can move.  Heard it from some GM somewhere...

To the cricket fans out there … here’s a set up as I watch the Fourth Ashes Test and play a game of chess. A good day. 👍

Nice looking chess box to the left of the T.V. The uncle's work as I remember.

My observational skills are good, except in my play.

Btw,it's 18 degrees here.....Freezing my tush off!

Updating this thread with a couple of recent gifts from xmas.... albeit there is some irony. This thread was started in lockdown and as it happens, 2022 is 2021 with cream on top .... we are back in lockdown as the family manages an outbreak of COVID within our home. So - home-based quarantine for us. Touch wood (or wooden chess pieces as it may be wink.png) all are recovering, slowly - albeit, it's pretty awful. So, more chess pieces in lockdown!

A 1914 St Petersburg Repro from HoS. I really like this set and the almost chocolate colour of the anjun wood.

Chetak II from CB

... and three of the more complex knights posing on the box my uncle made me. The Chetak II, Shera and 2016 Bridle - lovely but as time passes, I am tending to prefer simpler designs.

Nice set....I like it quite a bit...

Btw,I just found out that my mom has Covid, but luckily(she's been vaccinated) no symptoms.

I hope you and your family have all ben vaccinated,as well as our dear Chess.com friends!

No excuses for anyone!....My son is an infectious disease specialist and his sentiments are....If you don't get the vaccine....well,you're not the sharpest tack in the box.

He's had numerous non vaccinated patients in the ICU,who had Covid and were extremely sick....Almost all of them asked for the vaccine when it was too late!

Sorry for going off topic, but I like quite a few of the members here....Quite a bit actually,so I want you folks to be around for a long time.

Wow, those nights are gorgeous. I hope you are all on the mend, with the least suffering possible. You are in our thoughts.

For completeness, my four ‘simpler’ knights - albeit not classically simple like a Chavet….

… and yes, I forget to add the 1914 St Petersburg, my simplest so far ….

Pictured are the French Regence, GM Blitz, Squadron and Holger’s Phillipines’ knight.

One day I would like a Chavet - I wonder if they have a small size that would fit on my restored antique board? That has 30mm squares only  - so the pieces would need to be small or at least have narrow bases.

I rather like the rustic hand carved looking one. My personal collection amounts to the standard Simpsons set, purchased in 1997, and the one I use... one of those standard, cheap, folding sets that was left with the trash after a garage sale. Lol.

@MisterWindUpBird - as it happens, that is my favourite too. It’s an unweighted set but the pieces are well balanced and usable. It’s from a fine gent - Holger Langer - here’s the thread that led me to that purchase.

Thanks Wits-end and all else.....My mom is 92  years old, frail with quite a few age related issues.......She has Covid and has shown no symptoms over the last few days......She's good to go on Monday.

Moral of story.....Get the shots and booster!

It’s a beautiful Sunday morning here in Melbourne. Before I start the day and get out into the fresh air I have been sitting on the couch, sipping a coffee, reading the forum and trying to come back from some bad places in various online games …. The king and Queen on the armrest are here for moral support. I do enjoy dipping in and out of this forum - thanks for all the positive contributions. Have a good day!

Next time try the rooks and bishops - they tell better jokes!  "The knight hops into a bar..."

@GrandPatzerDave …. Now that did make laugh - even without the punchline. Indeed, my wife just asked me what I was smirking at… 😊👍

Well, that's one more wife that thinks I'm weird...she's in good company with my own, hahaha!
