The Five Knights of Lockdown

Nothing more than a random update here…

I note that @brasileirosim has a thread on his interesting boxes … I look forward to seeing those updates. It made me think about my various storage devices and this morning - after some nice morning light on my chess set - I decided to rotate some sets …

So the French Regency went into a a highlight protective box…. And out cake the GM Blitz. While my 1972 Philippines set is robust enough to store in a pouch. Effective storage without too much style.
My dog was disinterested in my pieces …happy.png

Very nice @Powderdigit, a good way to start the day! Nice post. Our little guy likes to sit on the bench in my office/music room and make himself comfortable.

I have taken this picture in our garden a couple of years ago, when our old lady was still alive.

@Powderdigit, @Wits-end, very cute dogs you have there! I also like the stairs you have there for the little guy.

Beautiful photos and pooches Holger and Wits.

Holger’s dog: “c’mon ,,,
your move…enough chess, throw the ball!“ and
the black knight on Wits’ board seems to be staring down the dog!
And Wits…. I’ll try to guess … Taylor Acoustic, Gretsch, Gibson 355 and Fender Tele?

Love those last 2 sets....The music room/office guitar photo made me a bit sad, since I converted my extra room to a chess/hobby room, formerly housing seven high end acoustics.

The damn hand pain just became too much to bear,so I sold them....Chess only hurts a little when I lose.

Btw,it's some coincidence that the two dogs shown are exactly the same as my two neighbors own...On each side of me.

Cute little guys.

Our little Silky Terrier believes he is a mix of a pit bull and Great Dane! We have the soft stairs in most rooms as he is twelve now. Had surgery for a torn knee ligament three weeks ago, rebuilt the joint. I’m sorry your little friend is now gone, sadly they don’t live as long as we need them. We cherish each new day a little more than yesterday.

You know I feel your pain MT! Especially after woodworking, been making flutes. That OM-28E you helped steer me towards helps a lot. What are the odds of the two neighbor’s dog friends?

Good guesses PD! From left right, Breedlove, Heritage, Gibson 335, Fender Jazz bass. There about five more on other walls. Even a cigar box guitar I made from old parts. No, I didn’t smoke the cigars. 😉 Yes, Ye Olde and trusty black knight is valiantly eyeing my little friend. I can assure you, it will be quite a show down, the little fellow doesn’t know how to resign. There might be only Four Knights of Lockdown soon!

Ha! My two neighbors' dogs hate each other......They only like people.....Go figure.-happy.png

There's one little Poodle in my neighborhood who thinks he's a Pit Bull.I walk 3 miles regularly, in my gated development and he's always on the verge of going after me.

It's not nice to say but I'd kick him in the face.....That's how much I can't stand that dog!

Understanding poodles is like understanding women.  Just give it up already.  ;-)

Try bacon.  If a dog doesn't like bacon it's probably a cat.  ;-)

Okay one more, I can imagine @magictwanger taking a stroll with his pockets full of bacon. Every pup in the neighborhood is following him like he’s the Dog Whisperer. Heck, for bacon I’ll be tagging along! “Nice Mr. Wits, who’s a good boy?” 😆

Our apologies @PowderDigit, but you did start it all with pictures of your little friend. 😉

Wits - no need to apologise at all ! You, Magic and Dave cracked me up and I need the laugh at present, trust me!

“If the dog doesn’t like bacon it’s probably a cat” 😆

Back to chess … as a form of therapy, retail therapy …. , I have just purchased another set … not expensive but interesting - at least in my eyes. More to follow in due course.

See?  There's proof!  If that was a dog the bacon would already be gone...along with the plate, the chair, and part of the table.  Jus' sayin'  tongue.png

Ok … back to chess. Picked up this cute little beauty recently. It cost less than coffee and toast… so, sight unseen, nothing to lose.

It’s cool - the gent selling it said he picked it up years ago as part of a bulk lot of games at an Auction. He kept it for his grand kids but they are not interested in chess. Who knows where it originated or when but the white pieces have swirly wood and the dark pieces are probably stained - that said, the chip in the king would indicate  otherwise.

Regardless - a gem of a little set … I like it!

Avatar of Rsava

OK, if there is no back story to that chip you have to create one ... a heated battle over the board, pieces being moved fast and hard ...

Wonderful little set. Love finds like that.

Perfect for a study set or to take to the coffee shop for a game or two.

Avatar of magictwanger

That is a "cute" little set! Unique.

Btw,the chip can easily be repaired(if you so desire) with wood cement and some black paint or magic marker.

Love it!
