A new addition to my collection.
The Knights chess set was first created in 1998. The set was designed in a Gothic style. It was first presented at the CCI Meeting in Boca Raton, Florida,
The Knights set was featured in the annual collection "Best of the Best" by the American magazine "Robb Report", as well as in the Russian version of this publication.
This masterpiece was hand carved and signed by renowned artist and sculptor Oleg Raikis
Raikis’ chess carvings are internationally recognized and are highly prized and sought-after by chess collectors Worldwide.
King size is 11 cm.

Wow. What a beautiful carving. Is this a vintage set from 23 years ago? Or a modern carving of the 1988 set. Interesting to note there are no cross finials on the Kings and religious Bishops. Those Druids(?) deserve an extra half-point for looking so menacing. 3.5 pts. happy.png

I love how since each Knight is hand carved they are ever so slightly different from one another. Giving them a unique human touch. Oleg Raikis is such a gifted artist. Congratulations!

This was a custom order directly from Oleg. Completed last week. This is one of the only two knights sets that he carved from wood, the rest were mammoth ivory.

@kimk10 - thank you. That has just made my morning. What an incredible set; breathtaking. I’m off my phone and onto my laptop to see the pictures in all their glory. All the pieces are fantastic - so harmonious in design and the hooded pieces - so menacing. Wow! And again to Oleg - incredible skill. K10 you must be satisfied to own that set and thanks again for posting some pictures to admire. 👍

I really don't know what to say other than you should buy those white gloves for when playing with this set. Honestly though feels more like a museum set.  Wow just wow.  Oleg is in a class by himself.  Between the Rekislai set he made for @Pawnerai and this it's clear Oleg is an artist who's work will only increase in value over time.

Congrats! Wow! I love the details in the pieces. It is an amazing set.

I'm sure you are a nice guy and thanks for posting that "amazing set"........but......

I think I have to hate you.-happy.png

I agree, Oleg is an extremely talented artist. And now when I'm familiar with his work, I'm addicted.. this is a second set I'm ordering from him and I already placed an order for the next one..

P.S. I have no intentions to play with this set. It belongs on my display behind a glass door.

I could not own something like this even if I could afford it. I'd want to play it, but I'd be afraid of damaging it. This would drive me insane in short order.

So I just googled the artists name. Found his web sight. He has other... chess sets... Yah...

Amazing piece of art, in particular the bishop it reminds me of the movie assasin's creed, one hell of a movie.

I've always felt all chess sets are works of art.Of course, this one in particular is the penultimate example,imo.....Just my 2 cents.

That's what I'm talking about

THREE Oleg Raikis sets? Wow. If you don't mind, do you have any photos of your first set to share? And what's planned for the third?

I'm not sure why you would want to play with it. Those are figural sets, not intended for playing.

Wow! Fantastic work! I can’t imagine how long it takes to finish each piece! this work makes the work of others seem small and easy !!

Pawnerai

That's an incredible level of fine detail work. Had to "right-click" the images to zoom in and take it all in. Thank you for sharing these photos. Now.... about all those other display case sets in the background. You can start your own blog happy.png

I would LOVE to see someone commission Oleg Raikis to carve his artistic interpretation of an Irish Killarney Chessmen set.

Those sets typically take 4-5 months to finish, depending on how many other orders he has at that time. It also depends on the level of complexity, how much you want to be involved etc. Of course it impacts the prices as well.
