After months of waiting anxiously for my Noj 1961 Tal Champioship Set, it finally arrived today.  I would like to thank Chuck, his friend Phil and Gregor Novak of Noj Slovenia  for  their collaboration in making this fabulous reproduction a reality. Here's a link to Chuck's post on his Tal set in black stain:

Noj offers the set in maple wood with a red or brown stain or maple and natural walnut woods. Here's the link to their offering:

It was a tough decision, but I chose the set in maple and natural walnut woods.  This reproduction set is amazing in every way. If you love wide chunky base pieces, as most collectors/players do, then you will quite pleased with this set. if you want an accurate replica of the 1961 Tal Championship Set, then this set will meet that requirement. If you want quality workmanship with finely turned pieces, then this set will suit your tastes. This set rates a 10 out of 10 on Richter scale.

I have supplied may pictures of this absolutely gorgeous set for your perusal.

I would now like to include you, Mike, along with Chuck, Phil and Gregor in my thanks, I think.

I am a big fan of the Noj, European Walnut as I have 3 sets of theirs in it.

I also do like the set as first presented by Chuck on this forum.

The combination of this set in Walnut is kind of doing it to me now, gorgeous.

It looks as if I now need to add yet another set to my want list.

You're welcome Ron, Yeah, the European walnut is gorgeous and my pictures don't do it justice. Its darker in color opposed to the lighter color of my pics.

Thanks Ron, Yes its an incredible set. Good point on the hockey bases...lol.  I have never seen such impressive chucky base pieces ever offered on any other set either vintage, new or reproduction in my 30 years of collecting. That's one reason why I love this set so much.

Thanks Chuck, I appreciate your kind words, but I really didn't do anything to warrant any credit in the success of your magnificent Tal set.

I'm jealous. When I ordered mine back in December, Gregor told me six months... sigh.

RC, what wood/color combination did you choose?

I hope they offer this set for years to come! I can't possibly afford it now but i would say it is the perfect set. The only set that i like even nearly as much is the mechanics institute from the house of staunton. Thank you for posting these pics!

Lol. I can just imagine the fidgeting and fussing or tossing and turning. Smile

Man, you got one too? And then rcmacmillan too? You guys are the triad. I don't think I'll be able to be a member of that group. Frown

But I'm happy for you guys, really I am. Tongue Out

By the way, I just love the grains of both the boxwood and walnut.
