I see they are having a 50% off sale currently. Seems like some great deals...guess they are trying to reduce stock?

it is easy to offer 50% off when i.e. the mahogany platform board had a cost of 370 £ a year ago and now is 499£. they have managed to sell really with a max of 25%.

Love the wide bases of the pieces. Just gorgeous.

Interesting topic. From what I have read I can conclude that House of Staunton is the most "attached to the original Staunton" option if I want to buy a chess set the most "standard" possible, right?...

What does "attached to the original Staunton" or "standard" mean?

No, this is no longer true.

I meant the most similar to the Classic American Staunton set. Because I've seen that every manufacturer (from different stores) has its own measures and particular details in the way the made the "American Staunton". Even some of them make the knights slightly taller than the bishops (I think it should be the other way around). So that's why I wanted to know if there is store/shop which produces the most "standard" set (with official measures and so on) and if this is the case of HoS.

Why not? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Here is the patent drawing of the Staunton chessmen.

Would you buy it if it was reproduced 100% accurately?

No. I meant the American Staunton chess set, not the original Staunton.

Do you have the patent drawing for that design so that we all know what it should look like?

@dmariscaldc I am not familiar with the American Staunton design. Are you referring to something like this? https://www.chessusa.com/product/21-S16-basic-chess-set.html

I am talking about a chess set like this: 410_1.jpg

@dmariscaldc I see. What comes to mind is the Grandmaster series from HoS https://www.houseofstaunton.com/the-grandmaster-series-chess-pieces-4-0-king.html. I have this in a 3.25" for my analysis set. Also, I've seen it at JK Creative https://www.etsy.com/listing/233988891/chess-pieces?ref=shop_home_active_3&frs=1. I am not sure who else makes this set or which one is the most accurate version.

I think "American" in this case is just a name the Indian manufacturer chose to call this particular set. I googled American Staunton and each manufacturer has their own version called American Staunton.

I don't think there is THE Original American Staunton set, or even a standard against which a set could be measured.

I think it's more like the International Series ( https://www.houseofstaunton.com/the-international-series-chess-pieces-3-875-king.html ) or like the Wild Knight Series (but this is more like some other manufacturers call it "Executive").

Yeah, that makes sense. But I have also seen that the majority of manufacturers have that kind of Knight in what thet call the "American Staunton". I'm talking about the knight here: https://www.houseofstaunton.com/the-international-series-chess-pieces-3-875-king.html
