I would like to buy an electronic chess notebook for keeping track of moves in my games but can't seem to find one other than the $400 one.

Basically all I want is a device that will create pgns that I can download from the device to my computer for analyzation.  I've seen a lot of different handheld chess computers but none appear to be USB or save PGNs into memory other than the $400 one whos name escapes me.

Any help would be awesome thanks guys!!

You're completely missing out on the smartphone/PDA market.

I have both a HP  PDA as well as an HTC (windows mobile) phone that have the following programs:

-PocketShredder
-PocketGrandmaster

Both of these cost about 19 USD and allow you to manage PGN databases of your games. And yes, being smartphones/PDAs, you can USB-sync them like you would a thumbdrive to your PC.

This is great for regular club games ... I use it a lot.

Of course, if you want to record moves in a USCF tournament, you are stuck with the over-priced 400$ device ... any other device is outlawed.

hi..is there any device like [hand video game] exclusively for chess. which can be recharged like our cell phones or battery powered... which can play with us and can save our games..like FRITZ. if so how much will it cost? can any one guide me on this...

The Monroi device is overpriced and used only for recording games. Once again => Buy a smart phone or PDA, preferably Windows Mobile. There are tons of apps (including Pocket Fritz which works on win-mobile devices).

I have 4 apps on my phone that cater to different aspects of the game (tactics training, database, playing strong games etc.)  so it seems that buying a single device with just one "application" limits your flexibility.

Hi..you are right..Thank you for the reply.

the device is mainly designed for the tele communication...so if we gonna load it with applications..is it getting slow down? or hanging?

is the RAM sufficient run the chess engine?

There is a new product on the market to compete with the monroi and it is much cheaper. It is called a Plycounter. It is about half the price of the monroi and it IS uscf certified. It is also made in the USA
