variations and comments on Ipad

Do you know any softwares for iPad where the user can add variations and text comments for a game and save it to a pgn file? Something similar like chessbase or fritz or other windows softwares?

AttilaTurzo

John, Thank you. I checked them. Looks like neither of them are able to add variations and text comments to the games. I wrote an email to the programmer of t chess pro to ask about it.

I have TChess and Chessbase apps on my IPad, TChess allows you to add text on the app and save them, but not variations unfortunately.

Thank you sirness.

I spoke with the author of TChess and he said,

the variations are on his to do list.

Does chessbase have the variations and notations?

sirness

Hi,

Chessbase doesn't have any way to add notations and variations, however, it is a brilliant app, easy to use, linked to Chessbase.

It is superb for finding your opponents latest games and for easily opening pgn games from an email or website etc.

Its opening book is also useful.

I realise this doesn't help much but the info may be of some use.

I use Tchess when I want to annotate the game but as you say, actual variations are on the programmers to-do list.

Thank you. Do you know any other software

which is able to add variations also?

sirness

I have another app, HD+ Chess -ChessPro-with coach by Christopher Theron, It has been recommended by a poster on here.

This app has many features I find excellent , but it wont allow annotations, but does allow you to play a variation and then go back to the original move.

It wont save the variations as far as I can see.

Good Luck.

Looks like iPad chess software has some catching up to do!

i don't think cbase chess for ipad is linked to the chessbase family of products.

Gaffneychess ,

Why you mislead people ?

I have hiarcs on my new ipad for 6 monthes , and there's no way to add any annotation or vaiations in the lines. Unfortunately so far , there isn't any app on app store to do this. And Pocket fritz on wm 6.5 still is the best chess app for such features.

Thanks for the warning, Aidin299 - I'm glad you posted this clarification.

I would highly recommend trying Chess Opening Trainer for IPad. It allows you to enter variations and comments but uses its own format, not PGN. It allows you to train on your openings, and soon tactics, and there is a converter to convert PGNs to its format but not vice versa.  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chess-opening-trainer/id505079674?mt=8

In my opinion this is the best chess program for the ipad, but because it is an opening trainer it doesn't get as much publicity as the chess playing software gets.
