Very disappointed chessbazaar

I have to imagine that product manufacturing, product warehousing, online customer service, sales dept, photo studio, and web developers are not all under one roof. Things take time. Ohh,,, who are we kidding. They don't care. SeunghwanLee's request probably didn't even get past the CS person that replied to his messages. The CS person just rolled his eyes and moved on to the next daily message #2317. Company offered a refund after it's returned. Will the company pay upfront for a return shipping label is another matter. But the OP has already stated that he threw the $100 item into the trash than deal with all this. Which is a bit insane. But that was his choice.

Also, and I might be slammed by sound67 and a few others for this, this is a lower priced, quasi-direct shipper.  If this were a more expensive place like Official Staunton, Noj, The Chess Store, The Chess House, The House of Staunton, etc. the customer service would have taken care of this more quickly and with a lot less hassle for the customer.

What if that set different from the pictures was one of a very limited number that was not identical to the photos, and sets coming after are the same as the photos?

Well yeah and that would have been wrong. You can't post a 4 hinged folding board and send a 2 hinged board even though it was a limited number. That's false advertising. Plus they didn't say anything about it - did not confirm or deny.

But they offered the refund, which corrected the problem.  These places receive the sets packaged and usually do not inspect each piece of each set before shipping.

My point is that changing the pictures might be the wrong thing to do.

Well if they're not examining the sets they're shipping to their customers then that changes things. I'm surprised they don't if they don't. That's irresponsible.

I don't agree the OP is a whiner and I don't agree with trying to put things into perspective with the Covid stats. What does that have to do with the OP not liking the fact that CB won't update their photos? There are things that each of us do not like. Some of those things might even be a pet peeve and no matter how terrible the world is those things we don't like especially those pet peeves will always be things that bother us. Some of those things will hit a bigger nerve than others. What might seem small to others might be a big deal to the person in question. In this case, the OP obviously doesn't want others to suffer the fate he went through. I think that is fine. CB didn't change their photos. Well I think that is fine too. None of us can force another to do anything. CB is in no way obligated to do what the OP asked. However, the OP can dislike the fact that CB didn't change their photos. This doesn't make him a whiner. Just think about your own pet peeves. If someone hit that nerve would you "whine" about it? I know I would.

I agree but Lee's not even whining unless someone has Superman's super hearing ability. That's why I used the term 'persistent'.

I have to admit, this thread had me running to my previously purchased,of three years ago,12 inch folding, wooden magnetic set in Sheesham wood.I don't remember where I got it,but never took it out of the original packaging.Just checked it out and....whew...it's perfect.

Spoiler alert! Sadly it would not be possible to give the set to Mr. Shaibel.....He passed away.

Great series,btw.

Yesterday, I recieved 2 of the 4 replacement  chess pieces that Mr. Gupta promised that he would send.   He also   contacted me to  tell me  that he would  send me the 0ther 2 pieces   as soon as they were available.   Good customer service is of great benifit, not just to the customer, but also to chessbazar. Now I will be able to bring my chessbazar sets to  my club, without someone saying  "YOU PAID HOW MUCH FOR THAT SET ? "    eDWARD  dUBIN

theendgame--I have the following Chessbazaar chess sets----Richard Whitty, Anderssen drop  jaw, RO36N, RO 383, VK154-lm.    You can look up the price of each set on the ChessBazaar website.    The  often made comment  by several  of my clubmates was in refference to the  sets that had  to have cracked pieces replaced.  Now that I have recieved almost all  of my replacements, I do not expect to hear that comment again.

@ZIMBABWAEED19 - it took too long and that must have been frustrating but excellent that all has been (is being) resolved in the end.

I have not visited a club(yet) but I do note that when non chess playing friends come over and see some of my sets lying around the house - the general comment is one of surprise at what to them seems a reasonably priced and functional display piece.

While not as cheap as pre- pandemic and pre-QG - good value (albeit a subjective concept) can still be found.

It's always nice when other folks, particularly fellow players, are impressed with a chess set we might own......My experience has been the polar opposite! Seriously!

I have a small, unused second bedroom that my wife was nice enough to let me take over completely.....Totally mine.

I set it up to predominantly store and show my chess set/board/box and coffer collection.I've got one set always on display under an acrylic dust cover and I rotate sets and boards when the whim hits me.

I've got coffers and chess boxes galore and even a nice piece of chess art, just above the acrylic covered set of the week. This sitting on a nice coffee table(not too fancy).....but.....

Whenever I show this to friends, the reaction is...."You're nuts"!

The only two people who actually think it's cool are my nine year old grandson and his (beyond adorable) four year old sister.

I gifted a beautiful set and board to them a while back and am teaching my grandson the game.....The little sister is a cheater!-happy.png

Ha! Magic, I can totally understand this too. While some friends comment positively, I am sure some simply humour me! I will say that most of my sets are in storage and I have only a couple displayed (set up to reflect online games usually) … as such they are just part of the furniture.

When someone does ask about a set - I can show them a current daily game on my phone and they see it displayed out in the board…
For whatever reason people seem to like the fact that I use the physical pieces to see the digital game…. And this, in turn, usually leads to a positive conversation about the game of chess and sometimes the craftsmanship of the pieces.

For those type of sets I recommend House of Chess on eBay. I have one of their 12" magnetic sets with the slide out storage drawer and I' be been very pleased with it. I've Also bought 4-5 full sized chess pieces from them over the years with equal satisfaction. Any issues were handled expeditiously and without a hassle.

I think you are right. This kind of travel chess set shouldn't be bought from a company that is taken from another company, and I have experienced having to buy a product from a company that produces a good quality product directly. The product I bought from CB has already been dumped, and I purchased this product from House of chess and shipped.

How much did you pay for this set from House of Chess? It is likely that they are raising the price.

At least you got the product, they didn't scam you. For me, because I have already paid for it they are not even sending me my order, when I tried to contact them by phone they are not receiving my call too, I think my money is gone 😂, please be aware.

Complaints about Chessbazaar products and customer service have become too frequent recently
Avatar of SpanishStallion
Returning dodgy products to Chessbazaar or its proxies on etsy is almost out of the question because the return postage cost is astronomical which no buyer can afford and Chessbazaar knows this very well and takes full advantage of it!

Over 2 years of chess pieces collecting, I have bought from Chess Bazaar 49 sets. I made an inspection recently out of 49 sets, 8 sets have one or two pieces developed crack/s from storage. I sent a request for replacement to Chess Bazaar on 4th July 2024 (3 months ago) and until now after back and forth emails, Chess Bazaar hasn't sent a single replacement. The sets are in stock so no excuses. And for someone who bought so many sets from Chess Bazaar, this is really annoying.
I am not the type of person who will make a noise easily in social media, but this time I will. Last week, I was promised they will expedite the replacement of my damaged pieces, but I don't know when will that be.
Interestingly, I made a statistics regarding cracking from storage among the sellers where I bought my pieces in the past 2 years. And this is my findings:
1. Chess Bazaar = 8 sets out of 49 sets = 16.32%
2. House of Staunton = 2 out of 12 sets = 16%
3. Royal Chess Mall = 0 out of 16 sets = 0%
4. House of Chess = 0 out of 6 sets = 0%
4. Staunton Castle = 0 out of 2 sets = 0%
5. Jayson Tudtud (Philippines) = 0 ouf of 6 sets = 0%

Staunton Castle....on their website "lifetime warranty for hairline cracks on the chess pieces". It is probably one of the best if not the best warranty in the business.

As I always state I do not get any remuneration from any equipment or book company on this chess business.
