And yet another Soviet set acquistion. Kings measure 4" in height. Pawns measure 2" in height. I love the wide base big ball head Pawns.

Another beautiful set, Mike. Where do you keep coming up with them?

Thanks Robert, I got this one on Ebay, others from Etsy.

I agree with RC, another beautiful set. The bishops and pawns in particular.

Nice set, goodknightmike. I have grown to appreciate the minor - yet noticeable - differences between similar pieces. For example, in that pic of four black pawns, the fourth from the left has a base higher than the other three, its head not as round. The base on the third white pawn is lower than the others. I appreciate such differences found in older sets as compared to modern sets where every turned piece seems to be exactly the same, differences found only in the grain.

Thanks for continuing to post these Soviet sets. I've picked up several Soviet sets myself (nothing not seen here before) and have another on the way. Perhaps I should get around to taking pics to post.

The knights appear to be all wood. What is the age of the set?

You're welcome UpcountryRain, good observation about the differences in pieces of older Soviet sets. But I do have some sets that don't have these differences.  Yes, I would like to see some pics of your Soviet sets

Hi Chuck, There's no date inside the folding wood board that came with the set, so  I'd guess its between the 50s and 60s.The Knights are all wood.
