Don't know what it is but this set is starting to grow on me. The Knights, Rooks, and Pawns look cool.

They look cool even though, it's not a design I would personally buy. Strangely, they don't want to reveal the price unless the viewer is registered and login-ed to their website (I was curious to see to know the price).

Avatar of LondonDungeon

That's because that's the wholesaler site.

So they are relatively inexpensive keeping in mind that this is relatively a small chess set. I have never touched or seen polystone so I don't know how it feels in hands considering that it may not feel the same as seen in the pictures when it is in hands.

I've never seen polystone either. I'd be interested in how it's textured.

I saw those, I believe polystone is just plastic with a stone filler (Actually I think most plastic uses a ‘stone filler’ calcium carbonate). Anyway it looks to be similar to nic nac material used in stuff sold at hobby lobby (that hard plastic used for figurines, book ends, etc)

Now that you mention it I think my mom has some figurines like that.

Avatar of LondonDungeon

Yup! The Willow Tree figurines are made of polystone.

I’m also a fan of “art-deco” sets and “chubby” shaped pieces, I can see the appeal of this set. I have a set of bookends made from polystone; they seem pretty solid and heavy, my only gripe with them is that the black finish seems to rub off a bit (not sure what it is).

The current copies of The Isle of Lewis sets are made out of the same stuff. Great for novelty sets but club and tournament sets not so much. Cool looking set non the less.

Avatar of LondonDungeon

I like this better than the Isle of Lewis set. I'd mainly use it for analysis or a library set.

it's personal, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion when it comes to shape and form. i can't see anything good about the set. saying that i can't appreciate the hype around lewis chessmen other than age and history. there are beautiful sets out there old, new, reproduced and artistic, this one isn't for me.

boards not bad though.

@Sound67  I'd put this set up against any of those luxurious pieces Germany is shipping out. Oh that's right there are none. You had to buy American.

Bwahahahahaha!

Avatar of LondonDungeon

There is actually another German set I've found.

I actually somewhat like this set. The pawns are my favorite pawns but the knights could use work.
