Not a big fan of end grain boards tbh, but that is very nice and VERY, VERY expensive.

Are you looking to buy it bro?

na just window shopping; what currency is it listed in?

It’s listed in US currency at $461.50, which for what the board is and is made of, not that expensive. What will make it a truly expensive board is the shipping cost to North America. The board itself weighs 7kg, or about 15 pounds, and Andrei packs this boards VERY carefully, in a wood carton. When I bought my last board from him in 2017, the freight cost was about $125 to the USA.

Yeah I've seen in his videos that he packs his boards in custom wood crates; while the added protection is nice, I'm not sure it's really worth the extra shipping weight. His border-less boards seem pretty well priced; $230 for this is pretty good: https://mtmwood.com/en/chessboards.php?product_id=4450

Considering what HOS is charging for their premium chess boards, starting at $900 and going up to $4,500, MTM boards, even with the shipping costs, seems like a bargain.

I guess if you've got an extra $4,500 lying about, why not flaunt it!

Of course, you could always dip into the petty cash and get some chess pieces to go along with the board for a modest $7K chess set.

I always felt MTM boards were the penultimate in quality.

Besides I always liked Mary Tyler Moore.-

As nice as as the HOS board is,it comes off as a bit of a rip to me.Just my 2 cents.

I agree, in fact I'll add 3 cents and make it a nickel!

Well, a nickel is not even close to a start to buying one of these boards 😉

I remember when Frank first came out with this type of luxury boards, back around 2000.  Expensive then was about $1,000. Now it’s $4,500, yikes!

It was always a question of what place they could get to make the boards.  When his first place went out of business, Frank got a place in England.  And those boards were not as nice.  I know because Inhad a board with a flaw.  They had me return it and then replaced that board, from the first place, with one from the new place in England.  That board was thinner and not as nice as the original.

When I called, they told me of this new manufacturer and there was no way to get one built as well as the first one.

I don’t know where they are having these boards made, but they sure are overpriced.

I had Andrei make this board for me in 2015. It has held up quite well going on 5 years now. Walnut and maple with an ebony wood inlaid perimeter around the playing squares. Weighs 15lbs.

Some wood was removed intentionally to make the board lighter, but it's still a beast!

Very nice

QtoQ that's one nice board!

I always wanted one from him. I like his end grain, chaotic pattern, and his borderless of course but I also like this one: I  almost ordered one but I held back because I felt the chaotic pattern and maybe even the end grain pattern although very nice were too distracting for me. I still think about it once in awhile. The borderless one looks very attractive price-wise.

@MCH-I had bought 2 more boards from Andrei, one similar in design to the image you just posted with 60mm/2.36" squares and one of his chaotic designs, totally flat playing surface with alphanumeric characters engraved along the sides of the ranks and files. Here are their images.

I would like it to be haha

QtoQ Man! Both boards are awesome but I have to say I love the first one the most. The second one is awesome too but it would have to be a display piece for me. I don't think I could focus on chess with the chaotic pattern.

MGT88 - I agree, that is THE board

Summerville-New England was a U.S. company that made extremely high-quality chess boards. Sadly, they were too far ahead of the curve, before $1K to $4K chess boards became a marketable item, and closed up shop a few years back.

I had my eye on their Monk board, but by the time I was ready to pull the trigger, they were gone!

Yep...I looked far and wide for one of these; I found a handful on a site called "chessartistry.com" but they only shipped to locations within the USA (and they now appear to be out of business). The only thing I don't like about these boards is the fact that they went with a non-permanent finish that must be constantly maintained (with some kind of wax).
