Damn... So much sentimental value here for this set. I know it is much cherished among old american generation and was like, the top standard set back in that decade. Even though I think the pieces are not very "aesthetically pleasing," I'm sure it's reliable and easy to play with. Cheers.

I had one of these in the 70s when I was a teenager and do not really miss it. Compared to the House of Staunton "Marshall" plastic pieces, they do not cut a great figure. Yes they have a certain sentimental air for those of us who grew up in the 60s using those cheap K-Mart E.S. Lowe pieces - I actually have more sentiment for that one than the Drueke 36. But imported wood sets of great quality can now be had for really not much money. For schlepping to the tavern, I have the 2.75" HOS Marshall in black and ivory + 1.75" green/white silk screened linen board. Can't beat that!

I have a number of Drueke sets I just got a single or double weighted set I close to unused condition. I noticed a loose bishop mitre is there a preferred glue? Also is there a way to post pics from my phone?

It's a #36 set btw see above post

Is there no love for the earlier Drueke red-and-white set, No.23 ("American Made Chessmen")? I find them beautiful and nicely weighted. The plastic feels creamy, not cheap. They're great for analysis, and they seem to be plentiful on ebay. Of course, few things can beat that Player's Choice in red and white...

Are the Drueke boards now made by Drueke's son or grandson as good as the old ones?

Check out this No.36 on eBay:

Impractical
I respect desitter's preferences for the newer pieces he mentions, but honestly, I prefer the look of my Drueke Player's Choice set to any modern plastic sets, including my HOS plastic Marshall. The design of the Drueke is subtly better in plastic. Wood makes an entirely different impression. I also like the old E S Lowe set, though it was hollow and unweighted. Accounting for the aesthetics is interesting, and not as simplistic as "nostalgia."

I'd love to have that case !!

I picked up a Drueke set like this recently:

https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-drueke-sons-simulated-wood-440996731

It has a folding linen board (green/off white) with 2 1/4" squares.

The pieces are very heavy - heavier than the usual 35 sets. Someone has penciled in an H behind the 6635 on the box -  I am not sure what that was about.

I believe the 35 is single weighted the 35H (like yours) is double weighted and the 36 was triple weighted. I have two 36 (wood box marked) sets and they are really heavy.

That's an interesting item.  A million questions spring to mind though, like, why not a GoFundMe? Who owns the rights to "Players Choice"?  In fact, who owns "Drueke" the company if it has been sold at least twice?

But YES, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

nullthere is a reproduction set available for about $20 at Chess USA.

Genuine vintage Drueke set is very rare but it is the best plastic set. Reproductions have been on the market in different colors for a long time now but they are still no match for the original Drueke. Original Drueke could be even over $300 if anyone is lucky enough to find one.

Wrong wrong wrong!

I heard that the mouths are very susceptible to breaking when placed in a vice.

That would be VERY cool. I hope he gets the knights mouths right. Also maybe the ridiculous prices originals are fetching now might cool off when these new ones come on the market.

@ Stauntonmaster. The problem with you is that you are an insufferable know it all who clearly gets huge amounts of perverse gratification from posting absolute rubbish on otherwise healthy and interesting forums. To make matters worse, you speak with a tone of authority that is completely undeserved, given that you've never contributed anything in this online environment and worse still, all your claims are unfounded or easily disputed. The fact that you continue posting stuff simply, and only, shows that you have huge amounts of free time on your hands. In fact, your profile is easily deducible from your behaviour. Unemployed and living on benefits, or underage and dwelling in your mother's basement both seem likely. I'm leaning towards underage and basement myself, because not having a job probably motivates one to actually go out and look for a job right? There is no sign of change, no clue as to motivation in your behaviour though. So continue to mince words and spout your two-dimensional logic on here. Please, go ahead. The only thing you'll ever manage to do here is to publicly and humiliatingly expose and self-diagnose yourself for all the pathologies you clearly suffer from. Be my guest.

That's where that foot went, right up your asshole.

I had one of these sets back in my playing days as a kid in the 70s. Yes they were nice compared to the other plastic sets of the day, but they cut a poor figure next to my genuine boxwood and ebony sets. For the prices being asked of this set used, you can get an outstanding tournament-sized wooden set with storage box.
