Maybe because Rae1 is a better move because there is maybe a faster mate or something like that idk

First, 1.Re8 is "questionable" because it wins the equivalent of a pawn, while the simple 1.Rae1 leads to quick checkmate.

But anyway, in this position white is a whole rook up. One may claim half a dozen of moves being "brilliant".
