what kind of chess sets do you own?

Sort:
CrimsonKnight7

I used to have about 10 sets, I gave away a few to family, and friends thru the years.

I still like nice chess sets however.

niceforkinmove, I did get that leather board from Katherine Louise, as you surmised, and it's excellent.

Wow you never know who is on the Chess.com forums!

You have an informative and amazing collection of chess materials.   Thank you for taking the the time and effort to post pictures and information on the internet.   I really enjoy looking at the sets and learning about them.

will you please take pictures of this said set and post them?

yikes thats pretty fabulous. how much does this person charge?

Thanks for the compliment.  She varied in price depending on the board size.  I paid about $270 for the board shipped.  I think that was a very good deal.

The set I bought at house of staunton.  I don't see that they sell that set anymore.  When I was looking I only found a few sets on ebay that seemed close and many had a horn on the knights head.  For whatever reason I didn't like that horn and so got the hos set.  I was very happy with the woods used and look of the set.  But it looks quite similar to one on ebay now which you can buy for much less:

Thanks for the additional pictures of the sets with board.  I do like the warmer look of the leather boards.

TMkroll thanks for the additional pictures.   Sometimes I think there is something wrong with me the way I like looking at chess sets.  Smile

Question for all the chess set lovers:

I was told to keep my boxwood pieces out of the sunlight or the wood would darken.  But really I tend to like the golden look that the older white pieces seem to get.  Is it true that the sunlight will do that?  Has anyone done it to purposely darken the light pieces?

ask tmkroll he knows such things.

When exposed to direct sunlight frequently, boxwood won't turn to golden color. Instead, it will change towards grey.

Thanks for the vote of confindence, Somebodysson, but actually I got nothin' on this subject. I try to keep my sets out of direct sunlight, but I don't really know how/if it's bad for the boxwood pieces in particular.
