What new set should I get?

KnightsForkCafe

@MCH818 I understand that. Well since you are getting yours from The Chess Empire. You are getting the same Lardy set that HoS sells. The Chess Empire makes some of the sets for HoS. Getting the same thing for less is a + in my book.

Eyechess

Actually, the Lardy repro’s from these two places look quite different.  It does not look as if they are made in the same place.

And with the sale prices and discounts available to everyone at HoS, the HoS set is a bit less expensive than the linked Chess Empire set.

KnightsForkCafe

HoS boy speaks again. Eyechess I believe MCH818 has made up his mind. Move along.

Please stop the insults.

I was simply pointing out the facts.

KnightsForkCafe

@Eyechess Not an insult just the facts. Rishi from The Chess Empire confirmed to me that the Lardy set his company makes is the same. He also does the Liberty set as well as the Mechanics Institute set. Just giving the facts. So bug off.

Eyechess

Excuse me, but if you would actually examine the pictures the pieces are different.

Also, another thing you posted that was wrong was that the HoS set is more expensive.  Well, with sales and such it is a fact that the HoS set is actually a few dollars less expensive.

Please stop verbally abusing me as well.

KnightsForkCafe

@Eyechess you only jump on someone when you are butt hurt when someone has said something about HoS. So you clearly have a thing for HoS. I have nothing against HoS. I have bought sets from them before. What I have a problem with is you promoting HoS to benefit yourself. Look he has made up his mind on what set he wants to get. Just drop it and move along. I'm not going to argue over who's right and who's wrong. Just shut up and move along. If you are butt hurt. Go see a therapist.

Eyechess

Once again, please stop insulting me and otherwise verbally abusing me.

If you think what I post is wrong, please report me.

I have and will report you for these posts of yours.  Let’s see what happens.

KnightsForkCafe

@Eyechess Please stop promoting HoS for your benefit.

I was not nor am not promoting HoS.
You were the one that brought that company into the discussion saying 2 wrong things about their set.

I simply pointed out the errors you posted.

Note that I never talked about the quality of either company or set.  I only said they were not identical and the HoS set was not actually more expensive.

Please stop slandering me by saying I promote any Chess company for my personal gain.  I have said before and proven that I do not.

KnightsForkCafe

@Eyechess I brought up HoS because The Chess Empire makes some of the sets for HoS. You feel like you are the spokes person for HoS and feel the need to defend and on top of that promote a special going on. So yes that is nothing but a promotion for HoS you posted. HoS is not the Be All End All for chess sets. This topic is over with. Just move along.

Eyechess

Once again, you are very wrong in this.  I have reported you for your abusive behavior.

KnightsForkCafe

If you are this butt hurt. You truly do have issues.

Once again you post insults when you are so wrong on the facts.

I will not stand for your personal attacks on me.

Based on the Lardy sets I've seen the Chess Empire reproduction (https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/726481664/lardy-staunton-35-boxwood-glided-brown?ref=shop_home_active_3&frs=1) is a much closer copy of a Lardy set than the HOS version (https://www.houseofstaunton.com/the-french-lardy-chess-pieces-3-75-king.html). However, the ChessEmpire version is a 3.5" set suitable for 2" square board and the HOS version is a 3.75" set which would work better with a 2.25" board. Not really direct competitors. Bear in mind that when importing the Chess Empire set yourself you will have to pay import duties and taxes additional to the purchase price. Nice set at any price though.

In the USA we normally do not pay those import taxes that people in other countries pay.

@Eyechess You must have some seriously thin skin snowflake.

I bought the HoS version when they came out with it a number of years ago.  At the same time they came out with the B H Wood set.  I like the BH Wood set a lot better.

With the Chess Empire set being shorter it might be better balanced than the HoS version.  I might look to buy one.  This is interesting.

I really like the ChessEmpire Lardy repro. I have posted some pics here of it on a 2" square board. Most of my repros are Frank's "Timeless" Jaques copies but CE have just nailed this Lardy.

Do you know if they have it in anything other than the gilded?

Of course the stain is what the original ones were, I think.
