Regarding the Chinese set I can't tell if it's real or not from the pictures but my guess would be it is. There's absolutely no point to selling a fake a set as real with the eBay rules as they are. The buyer will get their money back nad the seller will have to pay for shipping both ways. I don't like those sets so I don't know what one should be worth, but that's certainly not the worst or newest-looking one I've ever seen, not by a mile.

Regarding the food in the picture... Now I can't tell if people are taking my jokes seriously on purpose as a joke in itself or not. I have no idea why the foot was there either and I think the picture is funny. (Well my real guess is the photographer didn't realize her foot was showing.)

Photo bomb, by your own foot!  Doubt it had anything to do with scale.

Hmmm... Nice, but where do you put the captured pieces?  In your pocket?

Hmm... seems to work well, don't you think?  Ahh... I'll just use my foot!

There's a parallax error in there. You have to include the fact that the base of the King is effectively lower than the bottom of the ruler, and the King is probably a bit over 4 inches, probably 4-1/4.

(The legal foot used in measurement is supposed to be Charlamagne's foot. It was he who put his foot down and demanded a standard.)

Yes. And you use a hoverclock, sold separately.

You're mistakenly assuming I didn't compensate as best I could with the equipment I have. Actually, the King is just a tad under 4", as I said in my initial posting of the picture. 3 15/16" as I put the ruler centered to piece base.

Agree!  Your detail when reviewing chessmen is excellent!  We can all learn from your lead.

Sure, a set of calipers for example, would be much more accurate.  I think a ruler is good enough and much better than a person’s foot, coffee mug, coin, money, or other “scale” objects used by sellers.  That was the point… not accuracy… additional comments from the original post that I excluded from the copied picture, did clear up any accuracy issue that might be perceived from the image.

Thanks for pointing out the parallax.  It is a good point.  Still, I would be happy if more sellers included measurements or a ruler for scale.

This thread is intended for a laugh... not to be taken too seriously.  Sometimes additional comments are made so others "get the joke" or to "add to the joke", I don't think intended to be critical per se, more so just to share in the humor.  Flaw can be found in most everything when you look close enough.

I though a chess board only have 64 squares... someone can find the sneaky powns on this 66 pieces set?

"BAR-ZIM CLASSIC CHESS SET Weighted Bottoms 66 pieces Board Classic Staunton desi"

From the Description:

"Hello and welcome to my auction!

This is a used Bar-Zim Classic Chess Set with 33 of each black and white pieces. Each have a weighted bottom with green felt. The board is cardstock. There are no instructions. The largest piece is 3-3/4". It says on the box that it is the Classic Staunton design. Good condition."

I am thinking if we make a rule that the black square goes on the rigth hand then all of the suden all this sellers will manage to swiths over just to get it wrong.

Looking at the black side of it... You can be the king of the small size or a pown on the big size.

What!  No Instructions?  Laughing

WHY??????

"Antique Wood Carved Chess set Pieces in Old Wood Box NR"

And here the description:

"32 pieces of wood chess pieces in old wood box marked France. The larger black knight is a hand carved replacement."

tmkroll

LMAO about that knight.

The second picture in 145 could be some kind of Asian chess.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makruk or I think some other games also use that position. (probably not what the seller was going for unless they are from one of those countries.)
